Sorry Emily, that you aren’t feeling well. Daddy is here for you! View attachment 2915315
Layman info on ascites, and how a person can assist/drain. do be sure if you try this to make sure it is sanitary. Personally, I would suggest draining by Vet...and see how long she is comfortable before she 'fills up' again...and then make a call as to whether you will drain again...or have the vet assist in putting her down....depending on her response. Doing nothing will, I believe, cause her to slowly suffocate due to the pressure on heart & lungs. (assuming it is ascites)

Vet said that the abdomen can be drained, but the condition will return. And that it’s not uncommon for her breed to get this condition. It’s probably my fault for over feeding her
Could there be an infection such as gleet? Or the vent issues were unrelated to this, or caused by this bigger problem?

:idunnoI wish I knew. She started this condition only four days ago, and has been getting progressively worse every day. She did eat breakfast today. But she just wants to lay around now (she wants to sleep, I’ll let her sleep)

If you don't have them on film (whether digital or physical 'film'...yes, showing my age!!), it might be nice. She is beautiful, and that was a very photogenic moment. You have some really amazing photos of the tribes in Spain.

If you don't mind my asking, do you know how they are all doing? If it is too painful or complicated...just ignore my question. But I am, as you can see, still immersed in them (in the past) on this thread as I slllloooooowwwwwly catch up.
I don't know how they are doing.
It is painful. I lost all my friends, some who I had lived with for years in one day.
What I do know is they had a better life than any other chickens I have ever read about and their chances of survival were excellent with the minimum of care as long as some arsehole doesn't lock them up or think they are fine in a run.

Sylvie is Gone

She out free ranging and I turned my back to do something and a hawk killed her. It was over when I heard it.

I'm telling everyone this so you know. I do not want to hear that it was for the best, or that I should have done X, or anything else. If you respond in that way I will block you. I am beyond devasted and I just don't want to hear I told you so or anything that you think is constructive. Frankly right now I'm ready to give up the chickens all together.

I don't know when I'll be back to the thread. It could be tomorrow, it could be a week.
I am so sorry! Sylvie will be missed, poor baby!:hitHawks are incredibly hard to defend against, I know. For months, I had a hawk that would not leave my girls alone. It landed in a tree ten feet away from the coop, not high up. It was injured, and must have died, because we haven't seen it since.

@Shadrach, I wasn't sure whether to 'like' with a heart or a frown...as both emotions are brought forth by this post. My heart goes out to you 💔on that loss...they DO manage to worm their way into your heart, don't they!?!

But you are also correct - they had an absolutely wonderful life under your care.❤️❤️

Someone came out to join in....still close to the coop, but NOT under the olive trees.
