Chicken mayhem today. Major fight (Arizona and Dakota) got into it. Jaffar jumped in the middle of the fight and stopped the two. Arizona went back to her eggs. Chickens can be mean sometimes!

Btw, do NOT mess with broody! She'll cuss out anyone/everyone getting within "too close" (which mostly seems to be line-of-sight). Anyone is short range of that is subject to getting the stuffing beat out of them.

What do songbirds eat?

I've planted my garden with a view to food and shelter for the local fauna. I even have a "prickly corner" to grow painfully sharp plants like the Needle bush and Dagger hakea for the little birds and mammals to hide in, away from cats and such. They still have a bit of growing to do to be really effective though. In the meantime they provide flowers and food for the local fauna.

For those interested, here they are.

Needle bush (Hakea sericea). No flowers at the moment but some nice seed pods.View attachment 2920771

Spiny head mat rush, the kids call it "sword grass". (Lomandra longifolia) pointy on the ends and sharp on the edges.

The whole time I was taking these photos I was going "Ow. Ow. Ow." So they are pointy enough to discourage humans!

Lomandra is one of the few natives to survive chickens.

I suggest observation with the cameras and I like the heating pad idea. Sansa still looks awful and I'm so glad I bought the brinsea. It is working great heating one end of the coop. Hattie really likes it.

The way your roosts are RC would have to mount it on a wall next to the roost. The heating pad is probably a better idea.

For me I need Sansa to grow feathers and she does not look any better. I am getting very concerned for her and I'm very anxious to hear from the vet.

That's not good, Bob. She is looking very ratty. I know you've checked for lice/mites. Have you checked for worms? Protein deficiency? Sif was looking pretty much like that while I was dealing with mites. She's looking heaps better now. I've added a vitamin supplement but as you know she is having some serious issues just now.
