Hen at Work

Here's a short video of Aurora watching over the tribe. Right after I stopped filming she went and chased Hattie off the apple they have all been pecking at. That sing song speech is Sansa. She was chatting away today while they were out.

Hi my friends. Today is an interesting day for me. I started coughing in the night, and awoke to lack of breath and more coughing. I took Jaffar from the chickens room, back to the coop. Then I called an ambulance to get me to hospital emergency. I’m here now. X-ray, CT scan, IV steroidal, lungs hurt bad from coughing so much. And all the uncomfortable waiting for doctors and nurses. (Sorry, no pictures of fluffy butts from me today ) I will take some pictures when I return home.
Total bummer of a day for me!

FEAR

I know i keep harping on this but i got another example of how scared they are today.

i screwed up today. I was up before the sun and had the coop open. I did not latch the door, I pushed it shut. Sometime after the sun came up the door must have blown open. This is what I found when I went to the kitchen at lunchtime.

I was sure that they were out in the yard. They always break out if they can. When I went outside I was frightened out of my mind. Because when I went outside there was no noise, no sign of them at all. I was sure that the hawk had come back. When I got to the coop, this is what I found.

They never left the coop. Everyone was there even Phyllis.

Later in the evening I decided to take a break from work and let them out for surprised free range. These chickens who would not go out the open coop door, came out to scratch around with my protection.

Yes mine like to hang out with the horses when they make a break for the paddock. I think they know the horses will likely keep predators away.

Chicken are pretty smart I am finding! They know a good thing when they find it!

Maybe a TV with cable would help.

If we're talking egg laying or lack thereof of I feel your pain. I too have lovely nest boxes but they all fight over this one box.

And this week they dug a nest in a bale of hay and they must have been lining up to lay eggs there - brats!!!

Must get them back to laying in nest boxes this weekend!!!

Covid test results are negative, so it’s a lung and breathing issue hospital a few days, and rest

Lovely fluffy butts The girls were quite obliging!

Was Sansa's intentionally blurry (so we don't notice the poor feathers?) Or was Sansa despondent about you taking her fluffy bottom picture when she isn't looking her best??? REgardless, the blurry pic makes her bottom look extra fluffy!!!

Wow, it is always scary to feel short of breath! Hoping you recover quickly...that it is immenently treatable!
