Good afternoon everyone. Hope you don't mind my joining your flock? All this talk about the weather makes a Brit feel right at home!

Thanks for this thread Bob, I've really enjoyed reading it through; but sorry to hear about you losing Jabber and Patsy.

I only joined BYC last week. We are currently getting ready for four POL hens who will be arriving at the end of August. We have almost built our 4x4m run and the coop arrives on Thursday.

Here in the UK brown eggs are completely normal and what everyone expects when buying from either farms or the supermarket. We would probably be quite perturbed by a white egg.... And as for green or blue? Not sure we could handle that!

I am so glad that you have enjoyed catching up and we are thrilled to have you join our conversations. I love that we have people from all over the world active in our little group.

Congratulations on getting your first 4 hens. I look forward to hearing your stories as well.

Frankly, doing this has been great for me personally. It took a lot for me to start but the support I have received through the tough times and the fun we all have in the good times has made it incredibly rewarding.

For example, when my best friend Daisy passed last year, I had to walk away from Back Yard Chickens for a while. It was too painful to read about everyone else's joy or sadness for that matter. This year by sharing the loss of Patsy, I received so much support, I had to keep coming back. Not to mention how much I wanted to support others going through the same grief as me.

This is a wonderful group and my life is better for virtually knowing everyone. It is exciting to have another member. Welcome to the flock!
:clap

HeyBob!! Daisy looks sweet! You need to go on the thread titled “What chicken breeds do you dislike and why?” and tell them of your Leghorns.. maybe you could change some minds ;)

Here are latest pics of the flowers... the pics of them are never any good as they are still very shy... 12 weeks now... View attachment 1854180View attachment 1854181View attachment 1854182

The leghorns are growing on me as well. I have 3 California Whites and they were the flightiest birds I ever dealt with. Now that they are maturing they are starting to hang our me more often. I still can't touch them, but they at least don't run from me like I'm a murderer.

Lol I own Campines so it's not the leghorns flightiness that gets my goat so much as their sorta aggressive snoot. :lau Mind you that might be a Yankee/Oz breed difference 'cause I was reading up on Campines kept by Americans & they were going on about their rose combs & my girls have a large, single, floppy comb so I could be persuaded...
