HeyBob!! Daisy looks sweet! You need to go on the thread titled “What chicken breeds do you dislike and why?” and tell them of your Leghorns.. maybe you could change some minds ;)

@WhoDatChick, if you go look back in the thread you will see posts from me. For the longest time after I first joined it was my mission in life to defend the leghorn on this site. They are still my favorites although these Easter Eggers are challenging them for the crown.

My Leghorns have been so curious. That curiosity makes them easy to train. They are called flighty but hey, they can REALLY FLY! So why not, right? I will always believe they are misunderstood because people don't take the time to understand them.
:rant:mad:

OK, off the soapbox now. :duc

Yep!! I had a bunny as a pet growing up, his name was Thumper.
Rabbits are a declared vermin in my state [Queensland]. It is totally illegal to own them ~ yep, even petting zoos can't keep them, not even if they are desexed. N.S.W, where I grew up, you can keep them as pets. My brother kept a white one for years.

I think I do remember seeing you there... I read through it quickly so I could catch up and post

Those girls are just beautiful.
Thank you! They have such a lovely shape... long legs and really high tail feathers! I think they are gonna be tall... and their shape is so different from Kelly’s.. my other EE.. When they are a bit older I will post profile pics of each so you can see the difference...

That is indeed a full jar of mealworms. I buy them in bulk from Amazon. 1 bag fills three of those pretzel jars.

Now why didn't I think of that? :barnie

A Grab, A Flap, A Bawk, A Swat on the Bum, and Everyone on the Roost

After the heaviest of the thunderstorms today (they have been non-stop today) I went out to let the flock out for some wet free ranging. It was late and only Maleficent was not roosted already. As soon as I got to the run door and asked her if she wanted out I could hear, thump, thump and Hattie and Aurora came bursting out of the coop. Lilly did not get down, so the three of them enjoyed some time in the wet yard.

After they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves, Hattie and Lilly went in and roosted as proper girls should do but not Maleficent. No, she is a little trouble maker.
:rant

I was going to head in when Aurora roosted assuming Maleficent would not want to be separated from her. However something told me to wait, so I did. Low and behold my little friend decided to roast in the run alone. I had an answer for that.

I entered the big run, grabbed her from the roost, she flapped and bawked, I put her on the ground, gave her a gentle sweat on the bum and into the coop she went. Flap, flap, flap, and she waf on the roost with everyone else. Mission accomplished.
:highfive:

@BY Bob the chicken wrangler! :D

Aurora Makes a New Friend

I saw this unlikely pairing this morning. Normally she runs them off.

Who knows what you’re going to have for a coop name when the weather is all through!

Just a bunny. There is a family living in a small brush pile on my property. Now my wife is worried about what will happen when I slowly burn the brush up.

I’m going to guess they will evacuate! When I lit up my burn barrel a month or so ago there was a little family of mice in it and under it, they all made it out just fine. Where they will go once their cover is gone? Probably a neighboring brush pile!

I'll read your post to her. Maybe if someone else says it........ She has such a good heart.

A Change in the Order of Things

I know that this can happen but in all the years I've had chickens, I have never experienced it before.

Over this past weekend while I was gone a significant change took place in the flock dynamics. I'm not sure why. The pecking order has altered. It has taken me 2 days of observation to confirm this but there has been a switch.

Ever since they arrived as pullets, Aurora would enforce on Maleficent that she was on top. That is clearly no longer so.

Or new pecking order is
1 Lilly
2 Hattie
3 Maleficent
4 Aurora

I have thought for a long time that Hattie better watch out for Aurora as she was so aggressive in maintaining her place. Whatever happened I missed but there is no doubt that my Princess is now at the bottom. I wonder what it was?

It's never dull here at Fluffy Butt Acres. Or as the coop now says "Luffy Utt Acres". :gig
