Diana had a bad attack of that yesterday when she went outside. I believe it is self-healing when spring comes our way. But down booties would probably help too.Mysterious Chicken AfflictionThis morning when I let my chickens out, I noticed this affliction that nearly a third of my birds had. It was a sudden onset, as they were ALL fine when I put them to be last night! Can anyone help with diagnosis and/or treatment? With such quick and rampant onset, I am very concerned. I'm posting pictures below to assist with any diagnosis/treatment.

There was no obvious carnage, no remains of the missing feet/legs left laying around...whatever caused it must have a real chicken foot fetish!
Temp this morning was about -3F (-20C), and the girls were not happy. Despite some bedding in the run, many of them had a foot tucked up in their feathers!
Poor baby. Do you know what night time temps are inside the coop? At least in the spots where she roosts?Another bitterly cold night last night. Down to 5F (-15C).
I was really worried about Dotty who is molting badly. Feathers everywhere and she looks half her normal size. They still don’t snuggle up at night so no warmth there.
I considered bringing her indoors but I knew it would stress her out.
Well she survived, and doesn’t seem to be any worse for wear. The next single digit night is next week and I worry she will be even more naked by then.
Poor Dotty. Why couldn’t she molt in the Fall?!

Did I give you hugs for this yet?
Actually, I don’t do anything to clean their feet feathers, they clean themselves! You have one quite interesting, all black, cochin! I've never seen a chicken with such large ears.
They are all quite lovely. I'm afraid to have cochins - must be very hard certain times of the year (spring jumps to mind) to keep their fluffy feet feathers clean.
A little bit warmer - looks like it didn't go below 9 degrees inside (which I find amazing actually!).Poor baby. Do you know what night tine temps are inside the coop? At least in the spots where she roosts?
Dolly passed away in my arms tonight,
We had thought, but everything didnt quite match up to that
Is everyone else okay? If I recall, you mentioned she has some symptoms that might have resembled that of Marek's?
