It just hit 10F here and it is a lot warmer in the Chicken Palace. Dotty is finishing a private breakfast in the garage and then I will take her back to join her friends.
She really doesn't like me - she went all out banshee with pecking when I brough her breakfast. Every time she lunged for me she lost a whole pile more feathers.
Sigh.

It's hard taking the abuse like that. You are doing right by her even if she doesn't know it. I wonder what you did that she doesn't like you?

I am finding that as long as no draft/wind they seem fine. I worried these last few weeks but they seemed ok...

Mine have done this before. I just don't get it. It is warmer in the coop by a few degrees. I guess they just want fresh air.

Oh look. The white chickens hang out with the white horse and the black chickens with the black horse.
It is more than ‘birds of a feather’!

I wonder who will hang out with my spotty Appaloosas! Might need to get more chickens - ones with spots!!

Outside in the Bitter Cold

I should have locked them in last night. These knuckleheads came out first thing this morning.

The Polish are still in the garage. At least until 9 am. I am monitoring the temp.

The Cluckle Hut with the heater in it is at 14°F. That is pretty good I think. I can probably leave them out there on nights down to 16°F as it should be around 20°F in the coop.

Well you are doing a good job at any rate, don't take it personally. Who knows what chickens think...

That would be any breed that has a splash variety, or Paint silkies, or a silver spangled hamburg. The options are endless.

I have studied her behavior a lot. She doesn't really hate me - sometimes she sits next to me for a chat for example.
But she is very assertively protective of her personal space - that is not just towards me but also to the other Princesses - even though she is not at the top of the pecking order she will lash out if anyone gets in her way. And she definitely sees me as some kind of competitor - when I walk around in the Chicken Palace she stands erect and has a real fighting stance towards my legs!
