I hope she is okay as well! I do worry about my flock at times like these (below zero & still windy) even with the 'heat source' I provide, as I am acutely aware that it only makes a very small dent in the temperature/chill level. I have 4 girls still molting, too! 2 almost done but feathers aren't full length/full fluff, and 2 with the quills/sheaths just emergingYou are made of sterner stuff than me. After one winter of lugging warm water out every few hours I realized I needed a heated waterer.
I built electric into the Chicken Palace because of wanting to be able to brood babies out in the coop. But turn out that heat for water is as important!
I am stressed about Dotty tonight.
My plan was to keep her out in the Chicken Palace with the oil-filled heater on and her roosted next to Minnie. This evening - right up to 10 minutes before sunset - she was just sitting on the ground not moving. She honestly looked unbelievably miserable like she didn't have the energy to even lift her head.
I imagined her just freezing on the spot. So I thought maybe I would put her in a nest box opposite Maggie (yes Maggie is back in a nest box but as it is so cold I am turning a blind eye) which would be close to the heater.
Then the more I watched her on camera the more convinced I became she was about to die so I decided to bring her in to the garage after all. I prepared her cozy cave (which needed some adjustment as I also had to fit the car in the garage) and went to get all geared up with boots and head lamp etc. only to find that she had got up and flown across the Palace to roost next to Minnie.
I wish she were the other side of Minnie as that is a bit closer to the heat, but it is what I had planned for so I have decided to leave her.
But I am stressed about it.
I can always check on the camera in the middle of the night and get up and bring her in.
Oh these ladies really do create worries!
I hope she is OK.

She is beautiful! I hope she and Phyllis become BFFs.Never Say Never
Does everyone remember when the plan was to obtain 2 of these lovelies to put into a coop with Phyllis and start a sub tribe? I had 2 reserved and then a dog got into the chickens and killed a bunch of them. My friend decided that those remaining she would keep for herself.

She texted me on Sunday. She is pregnant and decided to get rid of her chickens. Somehow she had placed all of her chickens but one. Would I take it to be Phyllis' friend.
At first I was reluctant. Things have not gone well lately. Mrs BY Bob pointed out that the universe was providing a solution to the Phyllis situation from a trusted source. So I agreed.
Everyone say hello to Betty.

Do they molt this time of year, every year?I hope she is okay as well! Thanks Kat. It's nice to have you around. I've missed you.She is beautiful! I hope she and Phyllis become BFFs.![]()
You covered them all. You know we all have to know all these things. I’m glad she is vaccinated.Questions! Questions! So many Questions!
Let me try and answer.
She is fully vaccinated against Mareks and Mycoplasma and is ~ 8 months old. No worries there.
Yes and no to quarantine. She is quarantined with Phyllis. They are locked off together from the other 4. I can't quarantine her separate from Phyllis. I don't have the facilities and I don't want to quarantine her alone for 2 weeks.
She is a Silver Laced Frizzled Polish. Phyllis did not attack her because it is dark in Cluckle Hut. Yes, I will be up early tomorrow.
Phew. I think I got them all.
