I only open the bag of shavings, and let the chickens do all the remodeling (they love to scratch in it)!Do they like the shavings?
My gang really likes fluffing in shavings piles.

Mites are nasty. I have an issue with them now in the free range flock, probably came in with either the rescues or the local little birds that like to steal my chicken feed. The chicken trailer has too many nooks and crannies though and they can hide in the walls and I can’t burn the little buggers out. Ick when my new coop gets built it’s going to be torchable!
Thanks Kris!Mites… awful but don’t treat yourself with the ivermectin too… that can lead to bad things!
On the other side of the coin, by having several dogs it deters other predators. I use to see foxes on a regular basis when we only had 2 dogs but it's been years since I've seen one and never hear a coyote anymore either. Our only loss is 2 chickens to our dogs and one duck to probably a coon. Have rehabbed the dogs that killed Pancho and Maya is making good progress in her chicken training.
DifferentDid Betty Lay?
She was acting like she wanted to lay. Here was Aurora's egg in the nest box earlier today. Look how pink!

Notice how Aurora has removed all straw from the nest box so it's just the way she likes it.
Here is what I found at dusk.

That's right, 1 white, 1 pink, 1and 1 beige. The white one is a polish egg. Is it Betty or Phyllis?
Let's compare. It weighs exactly the same as Phyllis egg from Thursday, 50g.
However, it does not seem to be quite as white as Phyllis' eggs. Here are 3, 2 known Phyllis eggs and the egg from today.

To me it seems a little creamier than Phyllis' eggs. What does everybody else think?
Is that egg from a different hen?

Yeah, can you believe it? And by Thursday it’s supposed to dip below freezing at night again.Shorts ....? Shorts ....? Are you trying to finished me off completely ...?
It's freezing here hahaha, but at least no more wind! And crystal clear, the stars are glistening in a black sky!
Oh my gosh, it’s the dorkiest thing. Her real name is Bridgette. I like classic, older names for chickens, and the barred rock feathers reminded me of a briquette,, so I picked Bridgette. LOL!!!! But now she’s just Bridge. Or Bridgey. Or Bridgley. Or Bridgel.BRIDGE! Hi Bridge
I've never asked, where did the name Bridge come from?
Originally from Ky but live in central Texas now. My wife wants to move there but she's not ready for a true winter. We only have 2 seasons here, hot summer and not so hot summer. LolKentucky
