That is interesting. I only have 1st generation crosses at the moment. Their father was a pure Marans. Of the different mothers only Butter laid a lightly speckled egg. Every single one of them are laying speckled eggs. Some more so then others, but I've yet to get a solid egg from any of them.I’m not really seeing any eggs out of my pure Marans lines but they were all solid, and I do have a fondness for them as it was also my first ever egg from my own girls. Laid by Mrs Marans in March of 2018… I do really like the specking and it seems to be more peel even in the third generation with Marans crosses. Chickie Hawk, although he looks completely like a Wheaton Ameraucana… if his ladies don’t pluck them for him, has feathered feet, from a Marans parent.
