Another day of howling winds, this time SW winds. No blowing snow as of yet, so getting hay at 11:30 yay! Then grocery store, tomorrow is a holiday here so stores will be closed....
Stay safe out there. Winds are done here. We have sunny clear skies today. I'm hoping to make some coop improvements today.

As if I need another reason to love silkies. 48 hours old and already giving attitude.

It's an Invasion!

It is cold in the Cluckle Hut this morning but that didn't stop the big girls.

The big girls decided to spend the morning in the Cluckle Hut. Including Lilly!

The Polish ladies do not seem happy about this development.

Meanwhile Aurora just wants to lay her egg.

I don’t blame the big girls. It is nice and cozy in the Cluckle Hut.

Have you tried giving her something to relieve inflammation? Sometimes if you give them a boost they start moving and the motion helps to relieve the swelling and the pain lessons. It just gives them a kick that starts them down the path to improvement.
Thanks for this suggestion, Bob. I decided to re-examine Millie and either I was mistaken about the swelling or it has come on quick. I actually think she was swollen, it went away, and then returned. Maybe related to me not being home to help her off the roost two mornings this week? Unfortunately, her belly is pretty large, which explains the labored breathing. Yesterday they got aloe detox, and I’ll offer it again later today and/or tomorrow. This morning I gave her s full 81mg aspirin, for inflammation and ascites, since she’s a big girl. She eats lots, so I don’t think it will upset her tummy too much. Having been down this road a couple times already, I’m kind of bummed for her. And for me. 🙁

Which color do you prefer out of your Marans, the solid dark egg or the speckled egg? I've noticed with mine I really have 2 different lines going on here. Holly and Bunny who have the feathered feet produce solid darker eggs. The clean leg line, Daisy when she lays, Corona, Baby, and when she was alive their mother Clover produce heavily speckled eggs. Personally for me while I love them both, I like the speckled ones just a tiny bit better. Each one is so different.
I’m not really seeing any eggs out of my pure Marans lines but they were all solid, and I do have a fondness for them as it was also my first ever egg from my own girls. Laid by Mrs Marans in March of 2018… I do really like the specking and it seems to be more peel even in the third generation with Marans crosses. Chickie Hawk, although he looks completely like a Wheaton Ameraucana… if his ladies don’t pluck them for him, has feathered feet, from a Marans parent.
