We had a brief break from this down pouring rain. So this little guy had a quick run outside

I bottle fed Rosebud for a little bit while getting her onto mom (Ruby) so yeah, familiar with that one. I even bought a calf bottle for her because the nipples on the sheep ones are just way too small for a calf. Better to have the right thing and not need it than need it and not have it… and it was a whopping $5. Should still be kicking around in one of their barns down there. I didn’t want to mess around too much with BIL and one of the Aunts there. But I really wanted to grab him and see if mama reacted as strongly as when I was hauling the female through the gate. I’d gladly put the time/work in to save/feed him, but they won’t pay for the milk, I can’t really afford it, and if I just take him well there’s the family drama BS. So it’s just watching and Praying that it works out better than the last one.
Watch and report them on the animal welfare stuff then. Maybe they'll learn, maybe they'll leave, lotta maybes

Nope i don't know this guy but have come across several AH'S very much similar too his sort of trash. They have neglected animal's and even children then make out too the world they are kind sensitive, caring human beings that are hard done by.
Sometimes it can be a mental handicap more than often it is not. They are just scum

I am really sorry you have had too experience this. :hugs
It's heartbreaking mental torture for those of us that care.
Thanks for the understanding. I’m really trying to keep everything here as light and positive and forward thinking, because I love y’all and this thread and everyone’s chickens. And life has enough issues for everyone without me sharing all the problems here. So I’m not going to share a lot of the “other” farm stuff, drama, and try to keep the unpleasantness to a minimum. Like my big social media purge, for my own mental welfare I’m just not engaging with those situations unless absolutely necessary. (I’m always going to step in when I see a distressed animal though, citiot or not). I really loved working with the cattle, Cows are lovely creatures.

These a bit of an issue with that, in that the SPCA here tends to seize all the animals and usually euthanizes them when it comes to chickens because of potential diseases. So that would endanger my own animals including pets, as well. Like the cattle situation I used for leverage for that poor calf. The initial media reports were all about the horrible conditions these cattle were being kept in, knee deep mud inadequate shelter. They were beef cattle brought in from the range to be shipped to the processor. But there was flooding and they couldn’t get transported. A neighbor reported, authorities showed up, three days later they were seizing the herd. A handling facility isn’t a housing facility, and the neighbour that reported apparently had a grudge.

The SPCA here in BC has a lot of problems with their understanding of livestock and exotic pets. And the vets they bring in aren’t always experts in the field. Like this one. One of my cousins brought her pet to this guys office. She got a second opinion and treated the problem. He also has an awful way of handling patients (I’m not being overly sensitive either, I’m personally not above the occasional tail or leg grab when necessary, but roughness in general is not good practice)

Onto some happy-ish Chicken things… everyone is still on very high alert from yesterday’s mink encounter and it shows…

It is also pretty wet out. So I’m not sure how well the butt fluff is going to photograph. For anyone doubting the worth of Roosters/cockerels look at these boys doing their job! Every group of hens has two to three guys keeping careful watch. They are working together even. There has been zero posturing or squabbles over hens, no mating activity, everyone is watchful. I have a shovel by my door and if that furry devil shows up… Sammy and Dean have groups as well further out into the field. And there are constant little concerned alert noises, but not actual alarms coming from the guys at anything. They are suspicious of me, the feral goats, our goats, the little junko birds, the ravens, the trees… everything is apparently a potential threat today.

There was Elios in the top right gap making a little triangle around these hens… but he ran off to escort another lady over to the group

I had no real problems getting her cornered and carrying her aside from the OMG she’s heavy! I’ve done that one a few times before with Rosebud and the first Calf Rowena threw here (out of season in June) was Idjet. He never did figure out gates and fences… 😂 at least it wasn’t far DH almost got out of the car to help me!

Gus was awesome! He was very well socialized and the biggest drawback was he had absolutely no fear of people. That made him very unpopular with the real farmers here as they have a lot of fear of male animals. If it’s a breeding male it’s inherently bad.
A useless comment...
Then the planks of dead wood shouldn't have them. :old

I would be nervous to, so I wouldn't attempt keeping one but in time, if i got stuck in the situation I know I would get over my fear.
Maybe I do have a functioning brain cell after all 🤔
See this ^^^ is how you summarize stuff Kristen! 🤣 I’ve always sucked at summarizing.

Join the club. Plus my spelling is notoriously bad.
In fact I'm thinking I could even become famous for my mistakes :D. Imagine getting porn mixed up with the word pawn in a summery :yesss:

Oh well back to the drawing board :caf
