I forgot to mention one of the bigger things going on lately. A couple weeks ago, a friend asked me what I thought about the recent bill that they are trying to pass (Senate Bill 2195). I was very confused because I wasn’t familiar with this bill. When I looked into it, I saw that they are trying to pass a bill in Hawaii to eradicate feral chickens throughout the state of Hawaii 😢 for those of you who know me, you know that all the chickens I write about are all feral chickens. That is Kauai and the rest of the Hawaiian islands are known for 💔
Gasp! This is horrific! Why???

They are claiming that roosters are a noise nuisance 😓 They are also saying that feral chickens are harmful (spread disease) to the native Hawaiian birds, but in reality it’s feral & domestic cats that are the biggest threats to the native Hawaiian birds. One thing the bill as noted is that the feral chickens are a road hazard 🤦🏽‍♀️

I don’t know if it’ll pass. I do know that the Red Jungle Fowl is protected in Hawaii. A lot of the feral chickens are descendents of the Red Jungle Fowl.

If this bill passes it’ll be in effect starting July 1st. It’ll be a 5 year pilot program in Oahu and will spread to the other counties.
Heartbreaking. I hope it does not pass. Does @Shadrach know about this? I think he’ll be horrified. As an American, I’m embarrassed by it!

Welcome… and yes keeping up here is a little challenging, but everyone is quite kind, and understanding when you miss a few days, or months. A few brave souls even try to keep up and catch up from the beginning! Lol I would be totally overwhelmed if I tried that…

I love the multi cultural thing we have going on here, it’s always so interesting to see the differences in chikenfolks in different places, and I have learned so much… especially from @Shadrach who was in the most similar to me situation…

The nice thing about that, and all the Aussies here is that when I finally finish up my evening chores and get online again… there’s sometimes even people still awake on here! 😂 I’m on the west coast of Canada, so I wake up to a bunch of Eastern morning chat, and many people are already asleep by the time I pop back in in the evening! I try to pop in about three times a day, but sometimes life gets in the way of chicken gossip!
Good morning Kris 💖🤗

I slept last night! Finally! I checked chickies at 3am and fell back to sleep. Everyone is still jockeying around for position on roosts now that the Roos are gone - I just checked now and some repositioning since 3 am.

Ok everyone have a great day, time for chores and get my butt off to work 🐎🐔

Is Lily an amercuana? She's stunning 😍
Lilly's heritage has been bandied about but I beleive she is a Black Copper Maran. She has been given honorary status a such by @RebeccaBoyd or resident Maran expert.

I will never really know as I rescued her.

Thanks for asking.

@BY Bob : I'm surprised to see her without a pipe today, given she is a smoker and all:lau

(P.S. I have to say, this particular picture/angle/pose makes her look like she is broody!❤️)
I thought broody when I took it. Hattie has never been broody though.

You don't like light colored chickens! Let me make certain I have this right. Single combed light colored hens are not preferred.

Right?

If I had set out to get EE, I would love one like Aurora. The bin my 3 came out of had 2 breeds in it. 1 was the bearded americaunas, and the other was the supposed to be Cinnamon Queens. I actually tried to talk her into one of the bearded chicks because they were so cute. It did not work. My problem is, if I were to continue to try and pass them off as Cinnamon Queens, how can I do that with a light chicken? Another reason I'm hoping they are a red color is mom was hoping for chickens the color of her boys Louis and Russ. Red and orange is her favorite color in animals. We have a golden retriever, 2 red horses and a orange cat. I've been nagged at why didn't we have red/orange chickens.
