She is lovely and that is a great video of her. But I am sorry to say Maggie would put her to shame on the noise front. Similar volume I would say, but Maggie doesn't restrict herself to egg time. She will go on like that if she sees a squirrel, or if she hears me, or if a car comes in to the driveway, or sometimes, just 'because' and it goes on for forever!
Personally I have a soft spot for these vocal chickens.
:love
It is girls like her that make me want to roll on the floor laughing when a non chicken person tries to tell me that roosters are loud and hens are quiet. I'm glad you have a maggie because a word of warning. I have found my Marans and Marans mixes to be talkers. More importantly, they are complainers and voice their opinion loudly and freely.

Gotta love a chicken willing to express a strongly held point of view!

My young pullet Rose who just started laying last month has found her voice, and is not afraid to make it known that the top nest box is hers!

Of course naughty Buttercup has to go and use that box just to tick Rose off.

I made the mistake at work to not lower the volume on my phone when I checked the barn cams hahaha. Good thing many of my co-workers also have chickies 😁

I want to show you all what I deal with 6 days out of the week. When it comes to being loud Raven puts any rooster to shame. She starts this on her way around the house when she has to lay her egg. It can take sometimes 20 minutes for her to make her way to her nest box. After she lays her egg though she will leave quietly thankfully. This is only 2 minutes of her announcing to the world a egg is on its way. Blueberry, Creamy and Squirrel are the same way, but thankfully only start singing once they reach the bottom step. Warning, turn your volume down.
Hahaha hope u don't have close by neighbours!

If I had set out to get EE, I would love one like Aurora. The bin my 3 came out of had 2 breeds in it. 1 was the bearded americaunas, and the other was the supposed to be Cinnamon Queens. I actually tried to talk her into one of the bearded chicks because they were so cute. It did not work. My problem is, if I were to continue to try and pass them off as Cinnamon Queens, how can I do that with a light chicken? Another reason I'm hoping they are a red color is mom was hoping for chickens the color of her boys Louis and Russ. Red and orange is her favorite color in animals. We have a golden retriever, 2 red horses and a orange cat. I've been nagged at why didn't we have red/orange chickens.
Are you a ginger by any chance ? 💖

It's a lovely day :)

The girls have been helping to sort out my raised bed. Looking like the mice got in there it was tunnelled out :(

Marie, I’m a little concerned about the chicken in that first picture. I believe it’s your “Princess”? Forgive me if I get their names wrong, I was gone for so long. I know you have some rescues and she looks a lot like a meat breed in her conformation… which I also keep for breeding, and far longer than their intended “lifespan” of 8-12 weeks! Her comb looks very purple there, and I am worried about her heart. It looks much like Roostie’s Did right before his heart attack. Was She recently exerting herself quite a bit? I also sometimes see this, usually in my roosters, if they have been chasing hens or each other vigorusly.

This is why I don’t get all the “no Roosters” rules in urban areas… my boys are mostly quiet unless they are alarming, but I’ve got a lot of screamer hens too. Top it off with the barking of domestic dogs, what’s the occasional little early morning crow really effect? I just go right back to sleep once I distinguish it’s not an alarm and there’s no way I’m letting them out that early! (Too many predators prefer early morning here)
