I got 2 siberian pea trees two years ago. This last winter, deer gnawed on them pretty badly, but I think they'll be fine. I'm ok with doing some labor to keep them contained, but if I got a fencerow, that would be nice.

I got them for the peas to give to the chickens. We'll see what we get in a few years.
I would love to know if they (chickens) like them! Also if they help to 'control' the sprouting ones by scratching/eating! Please let me know in the future - if the deer don't permanently 'browse' them into oblivion

Too many for traps in the barn, and yes you want to keep the poison in the building and the vermin also.

Generally speaking once mice and rats r in the barn with good access to feed and housing they stay there. I would never put pesticide outside were outside vermin can access it. That's just asking for problems.
Do you know where they live in the barn? If so dry ice will wipe out the entire colony with no danger to other animals, that's what I did with my rat invasion.

Today I got the strong aviary netting over two greenhouse frames, and a short stretch of electronet around the area to protect from ground predators. I opened a small entranceway from the big run out to the frames. They can have some unsupervised outdoor foraging this way until I get them moved to the summer (& shade) location.

We had a great time digging around the garden beds too - same thing, worm hunting!
Where did you get your aviary netting?

I have such a mouse rat problem in my barn.... But I put out Ratak yesterday and have high hopes to be rid of the beasties by next week.

Got the poison locked in my office/feedroom so chickies can't get at it. Also in the loft.... Where I saw a rat last weekend when I was throwing down hay. Nasty critters.
Make sure to dispose of the bodies too. Chickens (and other critters) can eat them and get poisoned off the poison in the bodies.
