Okay, Eowyn deserves BOTH a ❤️ and a . Gorgeous...and HUGE! Eowyn would crush my little Cleo (6 lbs, 7 ounces.) {Eowyn has such a beautiful face....gorgeous markings, almost regal looking!]

Thank you. Cleo is beautiful as well. Éowyn is my pet lynx. 😆

Hmm. I thought a bit of an over-bite was normal.
Here is Maggie whose beak looks just like Hazel’s with Diana out of focus in the background looking the same.
Dotty also but less so.
None of them are crossed but I can see they do look a bit like it.

Yes, I think the top beak is supposed to be a little longer. All my girls have that. Maybe the photo in question was just an illusion.

A formal introduction: Lulu

Lulu is the smallest of the three and I constantly worry about whether she is thriving. I think it is actually because she will be a smaller chicken than the others as she is perfectly lively.
She is the most skittish and runs away from my hand (unlike 3C who pecks it).

Lulu is a Legbar with lavender genes (not the same as blue jeans). Genetically she has two copies of the 'lav' gene just like Hattie, but she looks different from baby Hattie because the 'lav' gene basically lightens the chick's usual colors. Orpington chicks are solid color so baby Hattie was lavender all over. Legbars are chipmunk chicks and so what you see is basically a washed out chipmunk. As an adult I believe she will be Hattie-colored but with different shades like the Roadrunner markings.

To fend off an attack by our lovely host, Bob, I am aware that Legbars are not a recognized breed by the APA (though they are recognized as a breed in Britain) but they do breed true and if Lulu were to meet a similar colored Legbar rooster she would have chicks the same as her (unlike with crosses such as Bella).

Points to everyone who guessed the lavender part.

Lulu is a name with Arabic origins meaning pearl, and she is certainly precious to me.

Here she is strutting her stuff.

I LOVE HER!!! And her name!!!

I'll just say it - the guy is being a jerk. You hired these people and want to see them succeed. They signed on partly because of their experience with YOU. Of course this is upsetting! I'm mad just hearing about it.

In social encounters people use these tactics as ice breakers to cover their insecurity. One goes away with, "Yup, that guy's a jerk." But this is abusive in an employment situation. He is using his status as a superior to get over on others. This is not helpful to the company or the employees. Hopefully this is not the culture there? Are you the exception? The trainees may be now forewarned and should get out while they can, or hope to be in a different department. Maybe you have an employment handbook that covers this? Some guys never get over grammar school. You know the saying people get promoted to their level of incompetence? Proven here.

I think this is Hazel at two weeks, her wings were much less spotty and barred and she had a deep brown blush in her chick down. I almost named her Caramel, but her full name is actually Hazelnut.View attachment 3040742
Oooohhhh! I forgot you use that no slip stuff! Brilliant! And I bet it hoses right off!

I suspect it is more that most people don't understand that it isn't viable unless incubated, so to them it seems kinda 'icky'. I am sure her grandma knows this, but many people have asked me if there might be a chick inside and how am I sure there isn't if there is a Rooster around. Also, regarding bug, worms, etc. It is much easier, in that sense, to 'fool yourself' by buying 'hygenically' preppped & 'sealed' eggs, where you don't have to think about where they came from, what they ate, nor how they lived. It is just plain easier.

I gave a co-worked some smoked chicken (she said she would like to try it). Months later I found out she had thrown it out because she 'couldn't eat it'. She had come to my house ONCE and seen my chickens...a year before. She said she couldn't eat it because she 'knew' my chickens. I asked her how...it wasn't even one that was hatched yet when she came over...she said....but I've seen them, and they all looked happy...I couldn't eat that, I'll get my chicken from the store, thank you."

Honestly, what p#^&ed me off the most was she threw it away instead of giving it back or offering it to a friend. I did, later when I could say it calmly, tell her how much it bothered me that she threw it away, because that meant that the chickens life was 'wasted'. He died to be thrown away!:hitSo disrespectful of him and his life (I didn't say that part). But, it all goes back to "I'll have my steak and roast chicken...but I don't want to know where it came from.":( We want to continue to be omnivours without having to deal with the realities of being an omnivour.
Oh my gosh! That boils my blood!
Does she not realize where “store” chicken comes from?!?!

It’s still Monday in California!

As I said, I am making changes. This will not happen again to my people. I have spoken with all of them about it and I did not lose anyone over it so I have limited the damage. They do not report up through his portion of the organization and he and I are peers.
It sucks that you’re in this position, I’m glad your minions haven’t been too badly affected by him (that minion reference is a compliment… lol old workplace inside joke no one here will get) people don’t generally leave jobs they leave bad managers. I was an awful, awful supervisor. (sarcasm font). “Okay kiddos, the new HR lady is going to spend the day working with us, so please keep the harassment, inappropriate jokes, and language under control… we don’t want to scare this one off too!” Little did I know she was Québécois and Catholic so 16 siblings or some such and like most French Canadian women… just this side of completely crazy. 😂

That doesn’t make bullying and demeaning behaviour acceptable… but at least your team has a buffer, too bad it is you Bob :hugs
