I’ve thrown out the idea of “brooder temperature” they have a heat plate, are blocked from drafts and they are good IMO as long as I’m seeing activity, and not hearing that “mom I can’t find my way back to the heat plate” distress peeping I let them do their own thing.
Yes, I am not worried about it - they could get warmer if they chose to, and they are clearly happy as they are.
I just find it sort of amazing that the whole 95 thing could be so wrong. I think these babies would pass out if it was anything close to that hot!

Ere princess our favourite uncle sucker is digging up some treats for us :drool He can get it neat so we can mess it all up again :D🐔🐔🐔🐔

Rosie visited the high school yesterday. She has looked forward to this all year and enjoyed herself. While they were there they went ahead and signed up for their classes for next year and she brought the paper home for me to sign. I was slightly shocked by the classes she chose, but am very proud of her choices. Next year she will have AP English 1 and Biology *needed a teacher's referral to get into this one*. Her Math class will be determined towards the end of the year. She has taken Algebra 1 this year and maintained a 99 to 100 all year and the final week of school she'll take a test to see if she is going to go into Algebra 2 or AP Algebra 2. She wants the AP Algebra. I asked her why she chose the harder classes all on her own. She says if she wants to graduate with the National Honor Society requirements she has to have them, plus they look good on college applications. I love that she is thinking along those lines on her own without any encouragement from me.

Mr. Peabody, it's time for a quick trip back in time. Set the wayback machine for April 1, 2017.

I will let these photos of the Big 3 speak for themselves.

Another successful trip to the past.
OMG, @BY Bob that is the best pic of TGHE! I ❤️ the close-up head shot, she looks so regal with her 'crown' of comb!

Couple of very nice Fluffy bum shots in there, too!!:love

Something puzzling to me. Everything you read says chick brooder temperature should be 95f in week one and reduce by 5 degrees each week. So I should be at 90.
I know the whole logic is different using a heat plate because they press up against it when they get cold.
But during the day the Hooligans almost never go to the plate. Their ‘hang out’ is on top or on one of the branches.
The room is 70-72 degrees depending on whether the sun is aging in the window. That is nowhere close to 95.
It is very strange.

It is probably a smidge warmer in their 'tent' than the house in general, and a smidge warmer than that above/around the heater plate (so maybe close to 80?). Plus, there are no drafts at all in your BR, I am sure!
That said, they are active and happy...if they need it, they will go under. Were they just hatched when you got them...or are they more like 1.5 - 2 wks old? i.e. so are they closing in on the 85 degree temp time? They have enough wing feathers to be about 2 weeks old. I wouldn't worry unless they start peeping loudly like they are uncomfortable (like they did when you brought them home) They WILL tell you if something isn't okay!:jumpy❤️:jumpy

$200 a Tractor Supply this morning for chicken and dog feed. It is now official, we are spending more on animal food than our groceries.
Yup, it is official...you had gotten 'chicken fever'. Only cure was more chickens....lol...but then, they literally end up eating you out of house and home...:lau
