That's awesome Michelle, do you still work in the biology field? Or like me did you branch out to something different and make a complete U-turn in your career?
Nope. Now I’m a glorified secretary. LOL. I am the executive assistant to the superintendent and board of a public school district.

This is my nest now humans!!! 😂 I have trained the elderly one to let me in, and now there is nothing you can do to stop me. My next training point will be opening up the treats and letting me have all the yummies I want! Finally, a human around here that knows their place and doesn’t try to shoo me out. It’s like they think the live here on this nest or something. 🙄
All I'm going to say on this accusation is that no, there is not a special box of raisins kept in the china cabinet. No she does not hand out about 5 from that box in exchange for the egg. And finally, and this scares me, no, when the known broody decides she wants to hatch for the first time this year she will NOT be allowed to commandeer the couch. I've been informed she shall have her own milk crate brought in to be placed beside the couch. Grandma loves to sew, I fear it is almost time to look up a pattern for chicken diapers if she keeps this up.

That's appreciated but my hens are on pellets and I am not sure my hens wouldn't pick out the grains they add in there separate from the pellets. Though I have been wondering about going back to crumbles as the pellets end up as crumbles in the feeder bottom anyway, I think from the agitation when they hit them. Lately I've been using the crumbles in the chop greens as @bgmathteach does.
@ChicoryBlue The Scratch and Peck with Grubs IS pellets in the layer...and crumbles for the starter & grower.

To be honest, while I do not mind Bunny coming in for visits for a few minutes at a time I never wanted her to start laying inside. I've come to find out my chickens are a blessing and a curse. While Grandma's short term memory is not good at all, her long term memory is still very much intact. What I never knew until very recently is that her grandmother had a black hen. Apparently every day that hen would come in and lay her egg in the middle of her grandmother's bed. Bunny coming in and laying on the couch seems to bring back such a fond memory that I cannot without feeling terrible guilt shoo Bunny back outside to lay.

Well, an old gal's gotta do what an old gal's gotta do!
Seems like she is smitten on them all :love While it might drive you a bit bonkers, I am sure it helps Grandma pass the time, and makes her feel like she is helpful (even if it is only to the chickens, not the humans). And it will most likely help her recover sooner/better.

Grandma giving you the hairy eyeball for messing with HER girls:lau:gig:lau

EDIT: I posted this just before reading the post above, but after your 'raisins in the china cabinet' post. You are such a dear to allow this and let her relive wonderful times. It is amazing what good memories can do for one's mental health, which affects (positively) one's physical health. Bless you, and may these gifts - of yourself and your chickens - give Grandma at least good quality of life, if not the mental and physical acuity/agility you hope for.:hugs🙏❤️

You are doing a wonderful thing for an old lady.
Long term the irritation will fade and it will be a lovely story to remember.
Meanwhile, Bunny is also enjoying herself.
:love
