Oh how pretty!! I know how the sun can give false coloring, that's why I was surprised when I saw all the red.

I went out and took a close up photo of her. The gold lacing is kinda of making her look brown these days. Check this out.

Maleficent is certainly a handsome girl! I'm so glad she's getting back to her usual self.

I do not know this book. I will have to go onto Amazon and see if I can find it. I'm sure my new granddaughter would love it.

The book is quite old now. You may be able to get a second hand copy.

It's worming day! Everyone gets picked up, weighed, checked over, and worm medicine. They are already letting me know how they feel about this!

Are you supposed to worm them regularly? This is something I wasn’t aware of...

I do not worm regularly but Aurora has Ascaris eggs in her poo and her poo now looks like Maleficient's started looking a few week ago. So the whole flock is getting treated before anyone else shows symptoms. I am wiping everything out that could potentially cause them problems.

I do believe that some people do worm regularly, mostly in areas with warm wet climates where it doesn't freeze.

I worm regularly. It's recommended out here. Their wormer just goes in their water so it's a fairly easy task.

It's Delightful, it's Delicious, it's De-Wonderful, it's De-Wormer!

Well the dosing was entertaining this morning. Because I am treating their water with Corid, I needed to give the girls co-worker orally. The dose is based upon weight. So I set up a system with the help of my wife.

1. I would gather up a hen
2. I step on the scale with said hen
3. We would subtract my weight from that reading to find the hens weight
4. We multiply hens weight by dosing instructions
5. My wife draws appropriate amount into syringe
6. I restrain hen and open their beak
7. My wife delivers de-wormer into open beak
8. Hen is released to free range.

I got lucky with one hen. Lilly was trying to lay her egg when we started. I know its rude but i took advantage. I scooped her out of the nesting box, we weighed her, dosed her, and I put her back in the nesting box. She even went on to lay her egg. She did manage to cut me though as she promised. Never doubt The Enforcer.

She was the easy one. When I entered the big run. Maleficent immediately departed. She knew. I dropped the barrier and separated the big run from the rest of the complex, effectively trapping Hattie & Aurora. They knew something was up then and no amount of treats was going to bring them in hand range. So i maneauvered them into a corner and scooped up the big girl, Hattie. Here she is on my lap after I had weighed her and before we had delivered the dose. Look in the background. Aurora was watching the whole time to see what was happening! I'm sure this is what her thought was....

After I dosed Hattie, I set her free and went and got Aurora. No problem with her as well, weighed, dosed, and off to free range. That left Maleficent, the "smart" one who knew something bad was up.

I was counting on the fact that the other two were free ranging to upset her and lead her to enter the big run. For quite a while she would not approach the big run but was running around under the coop, on the porch, and up and down the ladder. Finally Hattie and Aurora went under the grape vines which are next to the big run and Maleficent ran into the run to see what they were doing. I dropped the door again and actually caught her out of the air as she tried to fly past me to safety.

We got her weighed, dosed and released her to the wild. The deed was done.

As we walked back in the three of them were behind the magnolia tree hiding behind a stump. All I could see was the tops of their heads as they tracked me back into the house.

I left them alone all morning and by the afternoon we were all friends again with everyone eating corn from my hands and Maleficent taking a rest at my feet again.


I tried to predict everyones weight before we weighed them. I missed on Lilly as I guessed 4 lbs (1.8 kg) and she came in as shoown below. I had everyone else within a few tenths.

1. Hattie 7.1 lbs (3.2 kg)
2. Maleficent 5.2 lbs (2.35 kg)
3. Lilly 5.2 lbs (2.35 kg)
4. Aurora 4.6 lbs (2.08 kg)
