Thank you for the updates BY Bob, it's sounding very promising.

In the children's picture book "The Chicken that could swim" the man who is the owner of the farm is called "the Man who loves Birds" and he reminds me of you with your girls.

He doesn't look anything like you though, he just loves his birds like you do :D

I do not know this book. I will have to go onto Amazon and see if I can find it. I'm sure my new granddaughter would love it.

Getting Better all the Time

It is quite possible that Maleficent bottomed out on Wednesday. She is out with the flock today. She reminded Aurora that she is still in charge a couple of times and is eating much better today. In the course of over an hour of observation she only scratched the ground once and not with any enthusiasm, but she did do it. She is letting others scratch and taking what they find or just eating grass, bugs, whatever is about without too much work.

Perhaps I have not permanently damaged our relationship by forcing her to take medicine, as she popped up to see me and spent 20 minutes grooming herself at my feet.

I took some video of her up on a foot stool next to me, hanging out and eating some corn. I think things are looking up.

All I can say is a special thank you to @casportpony for her help with this. You are a God send.

Yay Mellie!! I'm so glad she's feeling better!

I never noticed how much red she has is her. I always thought she was black...

Actually, there is NO red in her. There was something about the sun that created that false coloring. She is black with gold lacing on her body feathers and silver lacing on the feathers on her head. And of course, some white paint still. :gig

Even this picture is showing a little brown maybe in the midsection. Frankly she looks all black to me when i see her live. I wonder if it has something to do with her feather oils. Yesterday at the backdoor she was shiny blue where the sun was hitting her.

Oh how pretty!! I know how the sun can give false coloring, that's why I was surprised when I saw all the red.

interesting Lab Results or Things that make you go hmmmmm

The results are in from the poo samples!
Maleficent: no parasites, coccidia or otherwise :yesss:

Aurora: Coccidia (100/gram) and Acaris eggs (300/gram). [Hmmmmmm, I wonder.........]

Hoping to get some advice from @casportpony before I alter therapy but perhaps a good deworming is in order.

On the behavior side, I have let them out to free range after eliminating all non Bob-provided sources of water. Maleficent is with the flock. She has eaten some spaghetti, some lettuce, and a lot of scrambled eggs with shells in them. Perhaps she bottomed out yesterday and is headed back up. I want to watch her closely this afternoon to see what her poop and ongoing behavior is like.

I am hoping that the worst is over.

FYI: Aurora is behaving as normal. No visible changes there.
:hugsThat is happy news! What a great start to my morning! I was worrying about Mal. :hugs

I was in a very dark and frightened place back on Tuesday. It is indeed happy news and her recovery today is quite remakable. I even saw her scratching like she meant it a little while ago.
