Until seeing your photos over the last few months I thought horses slept standing up.Pony Sunday, caught some sleeping beauties last night.
Sally is so cute sleeping all tucked up

Truly has sleep issues, she won't lay down and thus doesn't get proper sleep. Once she fell over falling asleep, crashed through poor Sally's wall. Everyone was ok, but both the Veterinarian and I have tried so many things to help her but nothing gets her sleeping at night laying down, horses do lay down normally at least once a night and can get sleep deprived if they don't get proper sleep. Poor Truly...

The majority of the time they do, but at least a few times a week they need a deep REM sleep which can only happen laying down.Until seeing your photos over the last few months I thought horses slept standing up.

I lvoe them both - but as you know I am not a very sophisticated judge of chicken breeds! Here we have 2 brothers. Basil turned 1 year old March 26. Not only does he have the white feathers, he is narrower, has a shorter back, weaker tail angle

Now we have Bubba. Bubba turns 1 year old on the 18th of this month. He has better coloring, he is wider and heavier built and has a better tail angle and slightly longer back.

Neither one of these boys will be fully mature until they are around 18 to 24 months old, and neither one are perfect. I cannot fault either one on their temperament. They are gentle on the hens, good with the chicks and not people aggressive in the least. It honestly took hanging onto both of them until they were a year old to get a true idea of how they were going to mature. If I did not have Bubba, I would keep Basil, but would have to cull heavily for parasitic white in the future. I will still have to monitor Bubba's offspring for this problem as they are full brothers. Oh and by culling I do NOT mean killing them, I mean placing them in other homes.
The poor Roadrunners suffer occasionally at the hands of Maggie. In different ways these are quite hard to watch. Mostly she just has to run towards them and they make themselves scarce. I can see why!Ok so Fluffy and Curly were at it again, I can't believe how violent they were fighting!
And neither was backing down...
Is this normal for hens? Esp sisters who grew up together, been broody together....
I really worry about this behaviour, and if they could hurt each other. They are so tiny but so savage![]()
Wow, I would find that really hard to watch if Minnie were my hen. Actually I found it hard to watch even though she is not! Poor Minnie! I wonder how the dynamics will change once the youngsters get fully integrated? The poor Roadrunners suffer occasionally at the hands of Maggie. In different ways these are quite hard to watch.
