Ok, contacted them and spent a hour messaging back and forth. I found out they will not have hatching eggs available next spring as they are selling out in the fall and moving out of state. I explained my situation, and how I really only wanted 1 hen. We added each other as friends and when he is ready to sell out, and if grandma is still living with us this fall I will purchase 1 hen from him. Things with her now are just too up in the air for me to commit to hatching eggs or even buying a hen now. I will say this, the hens he has in photo's and videos are gorgeous. Blueberries shade of blue with full white crests.

You should probably get two, just to let her have a friend… maybe three just in case… you know five is also a nice number. It would be nice if you could use this a a bribe for better integration with Grandma, but with the short term memory issues that her condition brings there’s not a lot of point because within a few days she will have forgotten the promised hens for being nice and slip back into abusive behaviours. But if things work well going towards fall, getting established mature hens (note the assumed plural there? She will really want to take a friend with her) is probably better than hatching some out, and you will be providing a great home for some girls…

I like Kris' logic. I have found tho that it's always cheaper by the dozen.... Just sayin....

I know today is mugshot day. I have an uncooperative collective today. Not even any decent Friday pics. However, updates are needed. Yesterday was a mostly drizzly day (snow that melted on contact, much needed moisture :ya ), frost this morning (not surprising).

Jess with the little pair: I suspect a pullet and a cockerel, but too early for definitive. View attachment 3099111View attachment 3099116

The trio inside: the Egyptian chippy is likely a pullet as she's showing the bielefelder pullet colors, but she has a rose comb, so .... both the buff have cheek puffs, the large chunk from a blue egg, likely fathered by the 3-4 year old BOxEE cock and the little one from a white egg: must be from mine: looks just like cheetah, puffs must be Thing, highly unusual as the cross should be 100% black (split to mottle: can throw mottled babies).View attachment 3099114
As far as the rest of the lot:
View attachment 3099115View attachment 3099113View attachment 3099112View attachment 3099117I have NOT had to evict them from the coop in the morning the last 2 days. They're coming out with the bigs: Integration success. Ranging still needs some work, but size wise they should be staying mostly undercover, which they are so:wee:wee:wee:wee
Re: snow - glad you're getting moisture, and since it's cool it won't evaporate too fast.

Re: babies - you know what I think of babies 🤗 oh how I wish I could have babies....

Re: integration of the kiddos - woohoo! That's awesome!

Ok so I love the photos as always 😊
