I know the answer to that! It’s a (Woody Woodpecker)
I tried
I can’t come up with anything funny about a woodpecker. They are an animal, that spends whole life, banging its head against a tree. (Ever wonder if they get headaches?)I tried![]()
I'm not really sure what kind it is. It does not seem big enough to be the red headed woodpeckers we have. This one visits several times a day. It mostly stays on the power pole but when the chickens are not looking the sneaky devil drops down for a few pieces of whole corn. What a beauty, what sort of woodpecker is that?
No not Emu's sadly. I wish I could have 1 or 2, but I know I do not live in a place that I could have any. I do know of a place a little over a hour away that people visit that have Ostriches and Bison. I have never had a desire to see a Ostrich so never visited. Emu's are definitely a different story. And nope not a dozen Polish, I do not need a dozen. Frankly I do not need a pair of Polish but if things settle down with her and she accepts that she has to stay with us I will find a way to get her a polish hen. Thanks to a phone call from her neighbor she is more determined then ever to go home and I could strangle the man. All she cares about is her garden that was planted the day she had the stroke. Had her convinced that she was unable to take care of it anymore when he called this past Wednesday. He informed her that not only were her peas up, but he'd planted tomatoes, cucumbers and pepper plants for her and wanted to know if she needed anything else planted. We are literally back to square 1 with her again.Ah so not Emus but Polish, definitely a dozen!
I think it is a Red Bellied Woodpecker. I love to see woodpeckers, but sometimes they can be annoying and/or damaging. Last year a male pileated woodpecker decided that the speed limit sign across from our driveway was a GREAT drumming post to attract a mate.I'm not really sure what kind it is. It does not seem big enough to be the red headed woodpeckers we have. This one visits several times a day. It mostly stays on the power pole but when the chickens are not looking the sneaky devil drops down for a few pieces of whole corn.

I thought they were related...are they really all that different?I have never had a desire to see a Ostrich so never visited. Emu's are definitely a different story.
Yes, because though it will keep most ground predators out it won't protect against aerial predators at all, and it restricts the chickens' escape in the event.I still might just let them out in it when I am home, so I can keep an eye on things.
Any chance I could see a picture?Ok, contacted them and spent a hour messaging back and forth. I found out they will not have hatching eggs available next spring as they are selling out in the fall and moving out of state. I explained my situation, and how I really only wanted 1 hen. We added each other as friends and when he is ready to sell out, and if grandma is still living with us this fall I will purchase 1 hen from him. Things with her now are just too up in the air for me to commit to hatching eggs or even buying a hen now. I will say this, the hens he has in photo's and videos are gorgeous. Blueberries shade of blue with full white crests.
