Hello everyone.
I have a little question that I'm sure some of you can answer, those who have both chicks and cats in their household.
How do you handle it, do you let the cats come near the chicks or keep them away until the chicks get bigger?

Grochatila and princess Hibou are both very good hunters, unfortunately they love birds ( love as in finding them delicious 😋). They are scared of my standard hens but the chicks mother is a bantam and they are definitely not scared of her.

Ezzie tried it again, this time with one of the blue Cochins. I think I have to admit I have a teenage cockerel on my hands. I am sad, but, I am also ok. I am glad now I had the foresight to plan for this happening when I sold Basil. Ezzie does not have to go anywhere, I just have to wrap my head around calling him a boy. I also do not have to scramble and find one of the boys a home at the last minute to stay at my 3 rooster personal limit. It would have been nice to have another silkie hen, I wanted another hen but I have found silkies make loveable roosters. What I am dreading is the "I told you so's" from mom. She called Ezzie a boy from day 1. Why for once can she not be right, is that too much to ask.

Lovely cats!
A couple of mine are hunters so although I see other people letting cats and chicks interact I keep mine strictly separate.

Wow 11 that's a good age - you must be something right to get him to that good age! My retriever was 13 when he died, which is a huge feat for a large dog. Large breeds usually don't go more than 9 or 10 years I am told.
He was still stiff and in pain this morning. He had 60c of arnica first thing this morning then after 2 hours he had milk thistle tea later he had his breakfast then a walk. I'm ever so relieved to say his pain seems too have eased a lot after he got home and he's even better tonight.

I don't know if it's the arnica milk thistle or both because they both work as anti inflammatory. I rub the gel into him at night, he loves that. I think he's over the worst for now ❤

Thank you for your support :hugs :love

Beautiful cats. I have cats, and almost every neighbor I have has cats. My boy Jack is a very accomplished hunter. I do not fear the cats going after my chicks though. My momma's are very protective. Even when there are not chicks involved mine like to terrorize the cats. Truthfully my game hen has put the fear of god into all the cats, and my dogs. They know to give any of the momma's a wide berth and it is best not to even look in their direction.
