I won the guess when BYC will reach 145,000 threads contest yesterday. That's what I believe @Marie2020 was referring to.
:oops:ooops. Guess that'l teach me to GO on the homepage once in a while! Honestly, I just click the link in my alert to come here. Only go to the homepage if someone posts a link ;cause someone else won....or they posted a link to a contest (which I usually don't enter, but did for the 'eye' contest.)

:wee🎉🎉🥳🎉🎉 Yay for you! Of course, you have a pretty good 'estimate' to work from, given your chatty following, :lau:lau

I admit I feel some pride in her success. There were a couple of times when I nearly gave up hope and I did feel like most people would consider me rather foolish for doing the boots and the physical therapy and strapping up her hocks when they got caloused. But right now I am feeling it was all so worthwhile!
She is a beauty - I need to get some good pictures of her gold neck which is stunning - and as far as I can tell she is still the leader of the Hooligans tribe - they certainly follow her, so now she is more mobile and exploring they have all increased their range considerably.
So happy!
I have observed an interesting thing which is they have real strategies to avoid the Roadrunners - for example they are most active and wander furthest in the evening when the Roadrunners are chowing down on their pre-roost face-stuffing and therefore predictably at the feeder.

I am so happy for you and Bernadette! I know it was frustrating and disheartening at times....but Bernadette and I thank you for sticking in there!

She is a beautiful character ! :D❤️

I think I just got cussed out by Xzit. I took her out of her box to eat, but she went “crazy hen” on me, and jumped back on her eggs. (Didn’t eat or drink anything) but wow can she have a temper!
I am trying to break my broody, Clara, so I had her in a private run yesterday where she has everything she needs except a nest. When I went in to release her for the evening, she expressed her displeasure by racing forward and pecking my shoe before getting back on her nest and screaming at me!

BRAZEN!!!!!

The hawk has not been around for a while. it returned at disk tonight. Just after Betty had gone in the coop, it landed in the Birch tree. Right here.

I was standing at the garden having just planted it. Éowyn was NOT out with me. It has been a few weeks since I saw it and I was unarmed. It stood there screeching for a while and then flew across the street.

I am convinced it is after Betty. She goes to bed last most nights and I bet it has been studying her patterns from afar. It was just too late tonight for the kill.

Tomorrow night I will be outside waiting for it at dusk.

Fully armed.

Enough is enough.

Don't anyone worry, I'm not going to kill it but I AM going to hurt it. 😡
Yes, it must know that Betty doesn't have anybody else looking out for her while she makes her way in to the coop for the night.

I feel like the worst chook-mum ever. :hit
I haven't seen any evidence that you are not doing things as well as they can be done. I can understand how you feel about it though. :hugs We tend to think we have control over more things in life than we actually do. You're not to blame for everything that happens to you or your chickens. With illness, I think it's more like what @BY Bob pointed out, a bad run of luck, luck of the draw in chicken genetics. It does seem that many chickens don't live past 2-3 years, for one reason or another, even non-production breeds. That's not your doing. :hugs
