How is Patsy doing today?

She was in the big run this morning. Her eyes are bright and she is still getting around, albeit slowly. She ate some feed and went over and laid by the door to get out of the way of the rest of the flock.

The rest are highly active in the run as I started the process of turning over the dirt floor. Every year they take the dirt from along the walls/fence and pile it into the middle creating a large hump. So once or twice a year I dig the hump up and re-level the coop. They go crazy over the loose dirt digging in it for days breaking up clumps etc. In a week or so I will rake it level and the hump creation process will begin again.

It's good that she bright and eating. Any chance she might be heading into a molt and that's slowing her down? My EE did that a few weeks ago and I was quite worried.

Patsy molts HARD in late September. She is naked in places for weeks; the poor girl. It would not be molt at this time unfortunately.

I was hoping it was something simple like that. I hope she continues to improve.

Culture is showing E. coli along with some other light growth. After some text based debating with my wife, I went ahead and ordered Baytril. We can dose her directly so we are going to try it. I am traveling so the first does will be all her. Hopefully I can get my brother over to assist her.

We had her cultured last year and there was E coli then as well. It was not the cause of her illness at that time. I am not convinced it is now either but we are going to try. I simply can't think of anything else to do to try and help her.

They baytril can really help... I was able to give my really sick rescues a comfortable six months of retirement with treatment. All responded well to it, and seeing as they weren’t laying or meat birds, there’s no issue in treating them/her with it.

I found the easiest way to get it in my girls was to put the dose on a small bit of pita bread, slather it with cat food gravy and give as a little treat. The cat food masks the taste. It was part of their daily treatment for Scaly leg Mites and various reproductive issues. I’d pull the girl out and do her legs/feet, wash her bottom if needed, then give the medicine “treat”, they got used to being fussed with and were more patient with my pedicures knowing there was a tasty snack at the end (even if it was loaded with their meds ;))

Sending positive thoughts and prayers for her! And you :hugs
