I appreciated the dignified burial you showed in your intro post. I do similar, but with a bunch of meadow flowers and the hen with her flowers is placed carefully into a burial shroud (repurposed pillow case) before I fill the grave, plant something on the spot and place paving bricks to prevent disinternment by foxes.
I'm not even sure what sea grass is.
That hen, Dink was her name, used to roost in a magnolia tree at night. For a couple of reasons I let her do this every night and when everyone else was shut in I would get my T pole and gently lift her out of the tree. She never fussed, I would take her off the pole and she would sit on my palm until I placed her on the roost in the coop. I did this almost every night for over 5 years.

Saying "thank you and farewell my friend" is the least we can do after all they give us. And a respectful burial nourishes my character and self-respect.

Yep. Just to add to the litter in the run, not coop bedding.
I bury all except the ones we eat. Don't ask me how I can make the distinction because I don't have a rational answer.
