Thanks! I try to pay close attention to them when I’m “helping” them and barely rub their beaks, keeping close attention to how they are responding. Mrs B actually seems to like it, and as I said with access to some hard surfaces most of the girls in with Chickie Hawk have been “working” on their own beaks. They have much less troubles eating now.

I miss being able to Free Range Sammy and his girls, but they keep wanting back into the barn, and with the owl lurking... they were much happier running around outside my big Coop and all the human places, and being forest chickens.

Below is my Chickie Hawk the big daddy rooster of most of my flock. He has some attitude issues towards humans. He is in with the most of my rescue girls. Pics from spring (and the White leghorn X boys in the background were tasty jerks, Sammy’s brothers)

These pictures are from when he was still a young and slightly less aggressive guy, he has settled down some now, but went through a very nasty young adult phase.
Sounds much like myself.:lau
He's a cracker and looks every bit the part.
Roosters.........they are usually a complete pain in the arse but I have an enormous soft spot for them.

Please don't worry. None of us have taken your post incorrectly. @Kris5902 was just clarifying. This is a very open understanding group.

How is the fox proofing going? I am concerned about your ladies. Has the fox been back?
Thank you for being so kind and welcoming. We are now certain Scary got out rather than the fox got in but we have done a lot to secure the temporary run and are working as fast as possible to get the Chicken Palace complete (at which point it should be raccoon proof too). Meanwhile they get locked up well before dusk (which Maggie in particular protests loudly!). There has been no sign of the fox since the paint ball shooting but I am sure s/he is just waiting and watching!

Yes, not trying to sound unwelcoming at all! And looking forward to seeing pictures of even more new chickens! As for what first drew you to the thread... for me it was the amazing title “Fluffy Butt* Acres”? Oh, I have to read this! Then add in @BY Bob ‘s amazing storytelling and photos and nearly 350 pages later, it’s like I’ve got a new family!

:lau I haven't been here long and missed that conversation! But the thought of a fox hit by a paint ball has me cracking up!!! :lau I want to know how it turns out in the end. Will that fox just stay away now? I hope so!!!

I came here because I couldn't resist the Fluffy Butt Acres title, and @BY Bob is such a wonderful story teller, and then everyone else just seem like wonderful chicken-people who are just the right amount of chicken crazy. So when I lost Scary I knew this was the group who would understand. My remaining 3 are Maggie, Diana and Elizabeth and it is hard to stay sad for long with them clucking around. I will get some fluffy butt pictures for everyone but meanwhile, Maggie is a RIR and I think Diana and Elizabeth are ISA Browns. I got all of them by accident as a result of a school project (not my kid, not my school) and I think it was supposed to be a temporary arrangement, but here I am building a whole palace for my princesses so they are definitely here to stay!

I do love the name Fluffy Butt Acres...it's what I wanted to call my chicken run. :lau Great minds think alike!

It's been a while since we saw photos. I forgot how handsome Chickie Hawk is. Hopefully you can rid yourself of that pesky owl and Sammy can go back to exploring with his ladies.

Lol! How did you know the goats have been back around? A bachelor herd of Stinky Billies, no less :sick . In all honesty I have to repair Chickie Hawk’s tractor, and they have been stationary for almost a week now. The mud still isn’t as bad as where I rescued them from though! But between the weather and the Boyo. DH Andrew said “and what are you going to do with HIM while we fix it? You don’t plan on trying to work in there with him, do you?!?”
You have an extra pic in there..

There you go and of course I agree.

We came up with it as we drove the 16 hours to Florida one spring. The tag line was, "Welcome to Fluffy Butt Acres, Shake Your Tail Feathers". I have yet to make that sign. :gig
