Sounds much like myself. Thanks! I try to pay close attention to them when I’m “helping” them and barely rub their beaks, keeping close attention to how they are responding. Mrs B actually seems to like it, and as I said with access to some hard surfaces most of the girls in with Chickie Hawk have been “working” on their own beaks. They have much less troubles eating now.
I miss being able to Free Range Sammy and his girls, but they keep wanting back into the barn, and with the owl lurking... they were much happier running around outside my big Coop and all the human places, and being forest chickens.

Below is my Chickie Hawk the big daddy rooster of most of my flock. He has some attitude issues towards humans. He is in with the most of my rescue girls. Pics from spring (and the White leghorn X boys in the background were tasty jerks, Sammy’s brothers)

These pictures are from when he was still a young and slightly less aggressive guy, he has settled down some now, but went through a very nasty young adult phase.

He's a cracker and looks every bit the part.
Roosters.........they are usually a complete pain in the arse but I have an enormous soft spot for them.
