@GrandmaDeKorte10 : I get occasional random eggs dropped about the pen & run, usually for one of three reasons: 1. There is some sort of dispute going over the nesting boxes. I may have a broody fending off all comers or a particular hen may not want to share with a hen she dislikes. 2. I've had my *enforcer* refusing access to a new hen. Apparently a new hen has to earn the right to lay in the nesting boxes. 3. I have a couple of hens who occasionally go completely feral & refuse to use their usual nesting place. If they can access somewhere outside the run & pen they do. If they can't they are liable to drop a random egg. None of which may apply to your situation. Some of my girls are complete nutters.

Really? I remember memorizing the song and singing with my sister. ☺

It might have been localised and not shown where we were, or I may have been too young to remember it. I do, however remember an NRMA ad (I think from the 70s) using the song “We’re In The Money” and I remember it being shown in Victoria, where we were living at the time. It’s odd what you remember from when you were little!

You are a harder man than I Shad. I think I'd end up tucking her into bed with me.☺💞
I don't find it easy but I'm nothing like as good as a rooster and a tribe. She needs to live with them and spend her life outside.

A Little Help

@GrandmaDeKorte10 posted on her thread last night asking for my help and I'm a little stumped. Maybe all of you can help.

She has 2 leghorns that laid eggs yesterday while roosted on an outside roost. Each time the flock then enjoyed eating the broken eggs off of the ground. This happened around 6:00 pm, still daylight for almost 2 more hours.

Why would a chicken lay while on a roost, that is not the sleeping roost, when there is plenty of open nest boxes and even ground space? Anyone have any ideas?
Not only don't I have an answer but Tap is doing something very similar at the moment. She's laying at night on the top of the nest boxes. Luckily the eggs aren't breaking.

@GrandmaDeKorte10 how old are the hens? It's semi normal to have a young layer pop out eggs whenever.

I’ve discovered the occasional stray egg and even watched a hen lay out in the open. She wasn’t roosting though. Maybe it’s a comfortable position to lay in?

They spent the whole day in the pile today. I bet Mr. Bunny got no sleep.
