I love it! Where else would you build it? Did you tell her you built it there so you spend time with her as you did it? You wanted to stay close to her?

How long did it take you?
No Bob, I didn't tell her any of that stuff. None of it would be true.;) Not hard to see why I'm single.:p
I can't remember how long it took. It was a long time ago. I got the bike in bits and some bits were missing so finding the right bits took a while.

Mrs BY Bob said she would not have fallen for it. I did suggest I bring the 85 convertible up to the living room when I work on it so we could be together. She suggested that I go the garage and leave her alone for a while.

I think leaving her alone is why we are still together! :lau :gig

Alone Time

I imagine that living in a small complex with 5 other people can make alone time hard to find. I was watching them on camera on rainy Thursday and I caught Sydney getting some alone time. She seemed very happy to be off on her own eating. Everyone else was under the coop laying around or grooming.

I have been wanting to do this for some time now. I knew once I started doing this there would be no going back. So I am now diving in and I hope you all enjoy coming along for the ride.

First of all let me tell you how we view our flock as that will help you to understand why we treat them like we do.

Our birds are our pets and we treat them as such. We do not care if someone is not laying eggs. They are welcome to stay at Fluffy Butt Acres until they pass naturally. (Now don't go telling them that! I would hate for word to get out) We do thoroughly enjoy the fresh eggs.

I plan to tell stories from the past as well as from today. I hope you all enjoy and will share stories of
Our other two residents came to us in April as chicks. My wife raised them until they moved outside and then they became my responsibility.

Hattie is our lavender orpington hen. She has not starting laying yet but i expect she will once the days turn longer.

Jabberwockie, Jabber for short, was supposed to be an Easter Egger hen, however, he is clearly not a hen.

He and Hattie are inseperable.
Jabber...I laughed out loud! So he's a husband? So handsome, your whole flock is beautiful. Is Patsy not a black copper marans? I have a FRENCH BCM chick i expect will grow up to look something like that.

Do you think chickens enjoy alone time or are lonely? Tegan will be off by herself a lot and I feel sorry for her, but I don't know if she's happy that way and is choosing to be alone.

Thank you very much. Patsy was a rescue so I really don't know for cetain but I always thought she was a black copper maran.

I hope you enjoy the journey through the last year plus. Please feel free to join us here in the current time as well for some lively current chicken conversation.

You know I can't be certain but I believe they chose company over being alone.
I know Lilly used to spend a lot of time alone when she was hen #3 out of three and Aurora did as well after Mal left us. When we got to four in the flock Lilly was rarely alone; she was always with Patsy. She could have chosen to be alone but did not.

Since we have gone to six, it is clear that they have their favorites, Hattie and Lilly are always together, Sydney and Sansa as well. But there are also interesting mix ups. Phyllis and Aurora were together a lot yesterday for example. What I don't see much of when they are free ranging is lone hens.

Because of what I have observed, I will try to keep even numbers in my flock if at all possible. It seems to me that they prefer to pair up at a minimum and I believe a lone hen is more susceptible to predators as well.

While they are social animals, they have their own personalities. I don't believe that you can rule out that someone isn't happier alone sometimes.

@Shadrach may have more to say on this as well but I doubt the roosters let anyone wander off on their own too much.
