Shared custody eh? Maybe we can have her for holidays if Bob will send her down
Only If I can come with her. She will need a chaperone. ;)

figure if I make a nice long roosting coop with a variety of perches Tsuki can't possibly police them all (I hope)
Yes, having 1 long perch like I did led to one hen being able to run up and down its length easily. I wish I had done the high perch for Mal and Aurora. I thought the extension would be enough but the high roost has really helped with the new ladies.

Well, some worrying news from my neck of the woods.

Three people in the Blue Mountains have tested positive for Parrot Fever (Psittacosis). It is carried by the native parrots and pigeons and can be transmitted to people and chickens. It can be fatal to them.
The chicken symptoms include sneezing, runny eye and green poo. I don't know if people get the green poo... 🤔

The article I read says not to kiss your birds. How will we manage? 😭
You are more likely to get salmonella from kissing your birds. I really hope no one is making out with their flocks!

BY Bob, can you tell us more about this disease?

Why of course I can. Glad you asked.

Psittacosis is mostly transmitted through dust from dried feces. It can survive for months in dried feces. In the states people primarily get it from cleaning up after caged birds. Mortality in chickens varies greatly, 5 to 40 %. In case anything would happen, treat with Tetracycline (200-800 ppm in feed for 3-4 weeks)

Hmmmm Tsuki is thinking, "mama you know I love a challenge." :gig

Tell you what, I'll take Phyllis wine tasting. Where will you take her?
I agree, likely Tsuki would just get more exercise with more perches. :gig

Phyllis would love wine tasting. :D

Oh no! Green poo is the new black at my place. They're foraging lots of new grass. I better watch out for sneezles and runny eye.
Red cabbage causes lime green poo. Have you fed them any red cabbage? I bet other items that are colored can cause green poo as well.

Other symptoms to look for:
  • Respiratory signs
  • Depression.
  • Weakness.
  • Not eating.
  • Weight loss.
  • Nasal discharge.
  • Conjunctivitis.
Most of these symptoms are fairly generic. There are vaccines if you are really worried.
