You have lovely hens and cats and I really like the pine cone idea. I have a feeling the box in my garage where the wrens have nested is full of pine cones! As soon as they all leave home I will investigate.
Thank you, we love our pets; they are an endless source of amusement, affection and companionship.
The pine cones had been in the house for months, so have nicely dried out and opened right up so all the treat slip right down inside the 'petals'

Thanks, Bob. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I catch up on my phone, through my browser. Maybe if I use the app, instead. The app really just appears to be a browser, however. And also posts all my replies at the bottom of the page I’m on. So I do what Lozzy suggested and go back a page or two or three and forward a page and back… It takes forever.
Try refreshing each time you post - seems to work for me

I know; isn't it hilarious?! My two cats are terrified of the chooks. There is no way they would try anything with them
My cats and chickens haven’t met yet. But I suspect three of the cats would be terrified. One of them once got beaten up (literally punched in the nose) by a flying squirrel that somehow got into the house. The fourth cat is a bit of a killer so won’t risk that intro.

Love! Who is the blue/lavender one? Actually, why don’t you name them all for us? :)
My seven year old son named the girls after the Velociraptors in Jurassic World!
Delta - who is the alpha - Light Sussex
Echo - second hen, - Marans hybrid
Blue - third hen - Blue Rhode/Bluebell
Charlie - fourth hen - Heritage Skyline

:love And I am using this post right now to shame my cats for their lack of mousing... I have named the mouse in my stove and the one in my sock drawer... I’ve even gotten used to waiting for the one in the sock drawer to scurry off before getting my clothes out (saves the started yelp, worrying that it’s a giant spider running across my hand first thing in the morning, that wakes DH)

I'm sure she liked it. How is she doing Kris?
Well, I was going to post this over on my own thread but since you asked...
Hoppy is doing much better, though I think I may need to look up Those chicken diaper sewing patterns at the rate she is soiling the chicken towels. We are fairly certain she had a stroke of some sort now. She is still having vision problems, mostly depth perception and near her head. And she is quite wobbly when she tries to move about. Great news is she is standing up on her own (mostly when she wants food or to poop) and starting to attempt to walk.

Unless you were going to put them in a cage and keep them safe this was going to happen eventually anyway. Don't beat yourself up too bad.
Thanks, I still feel a little guilty... but they are mice, and no not going to keep them as pets. There was a time when I would have (and the notion did cross my mind as they actually accepted the milk, a first in my experience) but realistically the amount of nursing required is way beyond me at the moment.

I'm so glad you were out with them when it happened. Very fortunate. Way to protect your flock.
Thanks, Bob. They actually aren’t allowed out without me. They are only out here without me if I have to run in to use the bathroom or do one quick dinner prep thing. And when that happens, they never, ever would be without either me or the dog; it’s usually both

Love the dog being so helpful in the chicken protection plan! And somewhat disappointed we missed the aerial predator display by the big featherless rooster (there’s never a conniving spouse around to video these things for everyone else, is there :p !)

I managed to finally get a pic of the Cobra Chickens! Of course dad spotted me through the window and was already moving the littles out... they still don’t trust me one bit.

This morning at 4:30 am (false dawn) there was the dreaded full alarm call, so out I rushed in my Jammies in the drizzling rain, armed with the trusty nerf gun, and prepared to scare off the owl or whatever else had upset my babies... and I couldn’t spot anything. Sammy and crew all quieted down, and I was left standing in the rain, underdressed and trying desperately to locate the source of the “danger”. Then I spotted Daddy goose’s head peering at me from just down the road 🙄 they are becoming bolder where the leftover chicken feed is concerned at least!
