Fat Bird just laid an egg! Bear in mind she's ten years old! The egg was elongated but in one piece.

I was just about to grab it when she trod on it.:he

The shell was very thin and this was a problem last year. It's not a lack of calcium apparently; it's one of those getting old things.
That is cool though. Exciting in a way. I wonder how she felt?

Patsy was rescued so I'm not entirely sure but I believe that she was likely a Copper Maran. She was beautiful.

I think I have heard of the Copper Marans but never knew what they looked like. Turns out that they were right in front of me this entire time! They are a beautiful breed! Looks like an Australorp with orange highlights!😁

That's a great descriptor. I like that. 😁

I was going to do a night time observation to see if the pace is any different. Do you see any value in that?
There is value in all observations of sitting hens but I've done the nighttime stint here and it was more or less the same as the day.
Pretty strange when it seems that 15 to 20 mins turning is the norm that people get advised to turn once or twice a day and many incubators turn not much more.

After I had stripped out the nest; yet again, she went and sat on a few eggs in the maternity unit. Then it started to hammer down with rain and she came into the house. after about an hour she made the escort call and hovered by the door. I picked her up and carried her up to the coop. When I looked in tonight she was fast asleep with her head under her wing and dind't stir when I opened the back to do the bum count. This is unusual for her so I guess all the excitement had worn her out.:love
