The Downside of too Much Free Range Time

Strange besying locations. This whole nest box egg laying saga just continues on. Check out the new nest Lilly was trying to make today.

Of course you can't really tell where that is from the video. Here is the actual Location.

Right behind Sansa on the roof of my pool shed! I have never had hens do this before. This lot is being spoiled with too much free range time. They are going wild on me! :barnie
I have never seen Lilly look so paranoid before. (I don't think she likes being filmed)

I just caught up on all the fluffy butts of the last few days! So Barred Rocks are known for going broody, huh? Oh oh!

I went to Tractor Supply and got some pullets (left) since I didn't think the hatch of five was going to quite do it for our family of four. They only had Barred Rocks, Cornish Cross, and Production Reds as choices.
Chicks! :love They are so cute.

So cute! Barred rocks are such great birds, I have several, and I love'm !:love

Big day here. First off, i finally got pictures of whole chicks not just fluffy butts. Though in full transparency I still get 5 butt photos for every head - as soon as they see me they turn around and tilt their butts up. I think I may have mentioned the projectile poo issue already. Hmmm. Hope this phase doesn’t last too long!
And secondly they moved out of the house. I am checking on them every few minutes in case it is too cold or too windy. But they seem very happy with the extra space and branches to climb on. One already skewered a passing gnat - killer chicks!

They are adorable and that is a wonderful photo.

Are they in the Palace annex here? Can they and your big girls see each other now?

Thanks for all the lovely things you guys are saying about my girls. I will pass on the compliments to them. ♥

Have you heard any sound from the eggs yet Bob?
I have not but I will try and listen tomorrow. If she will let me get close enough!

From those options I think BRs are the only sane choice. I have several & they are lovely birds as well as excellent layers. Mine do go broody pretty much all summer long, which is an absolute pain, but if you can let them sit [as Bob is doing] they are wonderful mothers!
