They may look that way, but that isn't how they are.;) Hurry is one of Cillins hens and Moon is Treacles. I was surprised to find they'll share a nest box.
I can just imagine the gossip going on between them, sharing stories of their respective domestic lives and b*tching about the husbands to one another!!

Good morning Bob and everyone!

Sydney being Mama

Sydney and the chicks had some adventures today. I did erect a small fence to block them from the pool on the garden side of the yard. It won't work for long but it will buy me a few weeks.

I threw some watermelon rings and strawberries into that portion of the yard for them to enjoy. Here is Sydney showing them the new treasure. This video has zooming in and out. I hope I don't make you nauseous.

Oh, at 1:06 Sydney does the beak wiping thing that was the first thing I noticed our chicks doing. I assume it's normal but haven't been concerned enough to look it up. This morning's thing to look up was seeing a bit of pink push out poop. It went back in fairly quickly so I don't think I have to worry about prolapsed vent.

I am glad you were able to put up a bit of fence. We have a pool too but with the chicks in the brooder we don't have to worry about it quite yet. It does have a fence around it. Hopefully the chickens will be as uninterested in it as the guineas have been.

All right, off to catch up on the rest of the thread. *waves*

How many days did it take them Bob? I ask because I mentioned to you it usually takes three days here and I'm interested to know if the complexity of access makes a difference.
They had one attempt before I confined them to the coop and porch so they didn't get trampled. I released them again on Tuesday. So Tuesday, Wednesday, and they did it themselves on Thursday night.

So they succeeded the third consecutive try. Frankly as clueless as they were I was completely shocked to find them inside. The night before they had no idea what to do.

Do you think they would go in if you put them at the top of the ramp while she was calling?
That's what they would do when I helped them. They would run right in. I just put them on top the ramp and then they would go join her.

I'm assuming you have a pool scoop to scoop leaves, feathers....and entire chickens out of the pool Bob? You don't jump in after them do you?🙀
No. They are usually along the edge and I can reach out and pick them out of the water. I think I used the leaf skimmer once when a hen was just out of reach.

so far so good, today he was eating solid pellets... he still seems a bit down at times, but ttheblood and crustiness is all gone, and I think it’s regrowing ok. Slowly, but ok. I just couldn’t believe that he managed to break off a spur so soon after as well! And no clue how he did it. He actually has two spurs on each leg, Kind of like those weird Jacob sheep. I should try to get you guys a picture of the undamaged leg...
I would like to see double spurs. I'm trying to picture that.

Welcome to the club! “Hey, get out from under that rock! & Not there.... that’s Danger Bear territory!” Oh, she’s taking off in a totally weird direction, I should follow. Sure enough, there’s yesterday’s egg is in a pile of split rail fencing. To say nothing of the awesome spot by my old trailer Deep Cycle Batteries. :he
O gosh. I am not looking forward to this. I used to have such nice orderly hens. :barnie
