My two black girls are the most skittish of the flock so it is hard to get a good picture of them.

Here is Pepper, showing off her iridescence.

Both your black girls are lovely. I just want to reach through the computer and pick up and snuggle Edwina. It is so hard to photograph a black chicken. I have over a 1000 pic's of my marans and Toothless for that matter for just a few good ones. One's where their colors really shine through because as i've learned, there's more to them than just a black chicken. If you look and get them in the right light they sparkle like gemstones.

And i am on pins and needles now. Holly is on day 19 of incubation. 8 eggs under her, 7 maran and 1 of Henreitta x Toothless. When i went out to refill water buckets for the horses a few minutes ago i heard her softly clucking. I had to go check, one of her eggs has the beginnings of a pip! After the fiasco and almost loosing clover 2 weeks ago when nugget hatched i'll be monitoring these closely. Thankfully Holly is way more tolerant of me messing with her than nugget is. Clover and Bread were 2 weeks old Monday, and that devil hen still comes at me if she even thinks i'm about to touch them. It really makes cleaning and refilling their food and water dishes fun, and painful.

Unfortunately I realize that this celebration of black chickens (totally hijacking @BY Bob 's thread, and on a day when he can't take time to post - Sorry Bob!) is having the opposite effect on me than I had hoped.
Rather than satisfying my 'thing' for black chickens it is making me want to have a black chicken (or two) in my flock.
Hmmm.
Can't do it this year, need to wait for the Young Ladies to properly integrate.
But there is definitely room in the Palace for more than 5 hens .. .. ..

Sorry to hijack BYB Bob. Here are some of my pics.

I have some "black" chickens for you...

My goodness! I took a bunch of time off (they wired me back together too) and first thing is this wonderfully written introduction..."oh! I just gotta read the rest of this! It's only seventeen hundr...wha?!
I'll try to catch up. Lol
Please don't be intimidated. Join us here at the end for conversation and then read back when you can. I frequently go back and tell old stories as well.

Welcome to the group.

I have rarely seen a bald eagle in the wild and I have never seen one kill something. That must have been awe inspiring. Wow. 😲😳
I know I’ve posted these pics before but thought I’d share again since yall were talking Eagles! Where we used to live I’d see them all the time and obviously up close... there was a big pond next to our house and this one swooped down and got a fish.. he ate it in a nearby tree and I got some pics... I was pretty close to it... so sad such poor quality though! They are truly majestic!! I LOVE seeing them.. but where we are now I hardly do...
