Alarm!

While I was filming the girls snacking the other day, Hattie sounding warning and Aurora picked it up. This video is 3 minutes long. They stood stock still for almost the entire 3 minutes. Hattie had 1 foot only 1/2 way on the ground and she never finished her step. You will see Hattie and Aurora on my right with Sansa frozen behind the pool heater. Sydney was to my left.

The initial alarm sound (a short squeak repeated once), which is not loud, came from Hattie and then Aurora takes charge, makes the loud warning and maintains what I call the "rumble".

I've been suspecting for some time that Aurora has been picking up more Sentinel duty from Hattie. This may be an example of them working together while on duty.

Happy Friday

Sadly it has to be Hattie this Friday. Her butt feathers are always the last to come in. It has to be chilly. Zoom in at your own peril.

Hawk!
I just had a hawk standing on top of the run. It took off before I could get the nerf gun. None of the hens knew it was there. A cardinal flushed it!

Crow!
Not the kind that wards off hawks, but rather, Lilly tried to crow right in front of me yesterday. I so wish that I had video of it. She even tried to make the rooster body movements as well. Wings, neck and all. Maybe I should start calling her "Lord Protector". What do you think?

The turnpike isc290 miles from my house. That counts. 😆

Sure it counts 😂 we've been there for band activities with our daughter at Hershey Park, Amish stuff and just traveling.

That was very interesting to see. I have heard a couple of the Princesses make that noise but it doesn't always seem to be an alarm. I may need to work on my chicken translation skills!

That's one of the reasons I wanted to post it. If you can learn the meanings of what the sound indicates you can better mange situations. I am hopeful that @Shadrach and others will weigh in with their observations of their flocks when they make the same sound.
