The Tally
The conversation, I'm no longer sure on which thread, regarding the chickens lost by @Ribh and @featherhead007 couple with it being the 5 year anniversary of Elphie's passing had me thinking of all the chickens that have come and gone at Fluffy Butt Acres. Here are the sad totals. We have been in the chicken business since 2013, over 7 years now. We have not been real food at this apparently.
Killed by Predators
Drowned in the Pool
- Dolly: Hawk, 2014
- Maleficent: Likely a weasel, 2020
Medical Issues
- Elphie, 2015
- Dusty, 2020
Removed from the Flock
- Trisha: Cloacal Prolapse, 2015
- Daisy (the greatest hen ever): Salpingitis, 2018
- Patsy: Old Age?, 2019
Not counting Jabber, that's 1 chicken lost a year. Doesn't make me feel like I'm doing a great job. I don't know that I would trust my chickens with me.

Beautiful girl! Here’s a pic of Beethoven-Hen. (Notice her spurs) that’s about as close as I can get to her with a camera phone

You guys are so cute! I bet the kids loved it!We actually had trick or treating tonight. Here was our setup. I sat to the right of the tree. The candy bowl was 8 feet in front of us. This is Mrs BY Bob's favorite holiday. Sadly for the children we were 1 of only 4 houses handing out candy on our street. We let every child take 2 pieces of candy and still only gave away half of our usual amount.

You are kind. It was staggering to total what we have been through on the this journey. I feel we are doing better each year. I think Lilly would agree. Some losses are harder to bear than others. I think you are a great chicken keeper. I'd belong to your flock any day!
It's November 1st....

Knowing what i know about how most chickens spend their lives, i'd rather take my chances with any one of us here! Yes, we make mistakes, but we love & care for our flocks & do our very best. You are kind. It was staggering to total what we have been through on the this journey. Oh, I’m so, so, so sorry, Bob. That is heartbreaking. I wish I could say something that would make you feel better about it, but as a fellow chicken lover, I know there probably isn’t anything that can be said. Please know that we feel your pain and think you are a wonderful chicken human.
