I'll remind you of this when you've had yet another hen go broody.......:D
Be careful what you wish for.
I could let you have twenty, or so broody hens. You could probably have a handful at a time.:he
I want to buy some chicks and let her raise them tho!
This one is on the top of my list in terms of potential setters:

Get a rooster. Buying chicks is likely to pave a road of misery. It does of course depend on where and from whome you buy, but chicks from most hatcheries, farm stores etc are not likely to live very long.
If you can't keep a rooster then look into getting eggs from someone with a proven record in supplying fertile eggs from a healthy flock showing elderly hens.

But I would need sexed pullets.
I can’t have boys.

All my birds are from a private, local feed store. They seem good quality, and haven’t had any health problems.
That’s where I’d get the chickies.

OK, I will tell this room, (Because you can understand) That I'm making corn on the cob tonight. So I invited my rooster "Jaffar" in for dinner, and maybe a movie later. He's such a good roo! (Deserving of special treatment) :love
Proper Irish butter and lemon sauce to go with that?

Well, I AM a scientist and would still feel uneasy cutting my own beloved pet open. I am a total left/right brain mix. Besides, some findings were not evident upon gross necropsy, but were found upon microscopy. I am very fortunate to be able to send mine to the University of California at Davis for a small fee.
I've tried. There's quite a lot to it, especially if the cause of death is not obvious.
Heart problems I found difficult. What exactly am I looking for?

How They can Tug at Your Heart

As the sun set last night, I was busy unloading groceries from the car so I missed actual roosting time, although in my defense, the flock roosted earlier than usual. So as I was heading out to watch roosting, they were done.

As I was walking out, I heard a little voice call out.

Phyllis was roosted in the run and she had seen me coming.

She jumped off of the roost and ran to my feet calling to me the whole way. I squatted down to see her and she chattered away. I can only guess, telling me what the mean Aurora had done to her. Once she settled, I scooped her up, soothed her a little and then placed her on the roost in the house.

Hattie quickly shuffled away from the door, apparently now aware of what the routine is and all was quiet.

Phyllis gets her own roost in the coop today.
Lovely, and so nice for you.:love
