There is a great deal I would like to write about education. But, my views would upset the majority here and I'm not really interested in doing that.
What I will write is I believe, if we survive long enough as a cooperative society there will come a time when education will not be primarily focused on productivity. People will have something like life tasks which they will study because they are interested in the subject. There will not be enough jobs as we know them as now. Even at managemnt level scientists are finding AI makes better decisions than human managers. The production of goods will be mechanised right down to farming.
Dig me up when we get there.:D

I know they understand actions & consequences. There was a farmer having trouble with the crows nicking his corn so he starting shooting them. The crows began bringing back the corn they had taken.
Other species intelligence is something I'm very interested in. I don't think humans are very smart and I'm looking for another species to take over.:D

I've seen education from more than one angle. I have very strong views on it, & mostly not very mainstream. I think most teachers are good @ what they should be doing but the policy makers fry the whole system & there seems to be nothing to be done about that. :(

You'll have to forgive this one.....
What! Not even with our wonderfull neoliberal captialist democratic society!?:lau

They are covered but I think there are sometimes gaps that I didn't think a mouse or rat could get through.

I was often wrong... 🙁
Unfortunately I am an expert on this topic. Half inch square hardware cloth will exclude rats and most mice but I have seen a small mouse squeeze through even that (with difficulty). So that is the order of magnitude - anything more than a half inch gap and at least the mice will just march right in.

I know you won't like this answer by my vote is for cats. They would rule with benign neglect because they really just don't care enough to do anything else. And they would appropriately prioritize the good things in life - all subjects would have compulsory relaxation time for most of the day. :lau

Where is the video of that?! I love it. Little buggers! ⚡
RC vs Wildlife (apologies for this long post - I have been obsessed for days and need to share!)

In good news, I think I am winning on the raccoon front. These two videos from two nights earlier this week. No visits since.

I rather like that it is deterrent rather than damaging - I was a bit disturbed at the thought that I might be injuring them - but seems like it is a nasty experience rather than dangerous.

The mice and rats are more complicated.
First up is an example of a rat digging down to the seam in the hardware cloth - where the vertical wall of hardware cloth meets the horizontal skirt to prevent digging predators. You can see that to fix any gaps in the seams I have to work deep down, sort of under the 'foundation' - so I spent Saturday lying on my belly trying to patch gaps.

This morning's trap inspection reveals 3 traps licked clean of peanut butter but not sprung, and one trap successfully sprung.
Rodents 3: RC 1
I am going to try the scratch on peanut butter trick tonight.

And because we recycle, here is Diana dealing with the body of the mouse just as dawn is breaking. RIP mouse, I am sorry, but you had to go, and you are now being recycled into eggs.

And finally, I realize this is a long post with only one chicken so here is a gratuitous chicken picture from yesterday.
