I hereby grant thee a data limit picture tax exemption.

Its purpose was not to discourage thought sharing. Participation is voluntary. I set it up for myself as I was way off the chicken discussion yesterday.
Lol, I also wanted to spare everyone my sordid and drama filled education history. TLDR but the summary goes: intelligent youth drops out of high school to avoid becoming violent, almost finished high school eduction at a college, quits for well paying job, loses job, digs in heels and refuses to complete education, regrets this for multiple reasons. Education doesn’t equal intelligence, but opens many more opportunities in life and reduces discrimination.

not a chicken photo but... why I’m catching up so much today, and don’t have any chicken pics recently.

I agree with you. I think time spent with family is more important than being with other kids all day every day.
Often, depending on where you live, family is a better influence on kids than some kids. Just saying.
Despite what Shad seems to think homeschooling actually encourages independent thinking ~ in my experience. Again I will give you an example so you know I'm not making this stuff up or just throwing out an opinion.

YD wanted to do some drama so she joined the island drama group. Mixed ages & backgrounds but everyone else went to a public school & YD found herself on the end of a bit of bullying for as the kids put it: watching tv all day & eating icecream! It used to peeve the child no end. They were supposed to do some Shakespeare & while I would be the 1st to agree a working knowledge of Shakespeare is not essential to getting a job for a high school student to not be able to read a Shakespearean sentence in a comprehensible fashion & understand it's meaning is deplorable.[Yes, YD could. 🙄 Naturally. That's my degree stuff.] So that got scrapped & they did mime instead. A whole term of practice to do a public mime @ the swimming pool. There were 25 kids who all handed in their permission slips to do this. When the day arrived the only one to show was YD. Nothing deterred she did the miming all on her own because every single other child had chickened out afraid of what their peers would say!!!! Sorry but peer socialization is rarely all that positive. It's group think of a not very high standard. And I think I should probably back out of this discussion now. 🙄😖 I get quite wild about what's happened to education in my country.
And here's my chicken tax picture.

Saturday Drive

We had another successful drive in the 85 convertible with the Alfa club yesterday. With fully functioning heat for Mrs BY Bob.

I would not normally say more than that but the destination I think might be of interest to a lot of you. We wound up at Elizabeth Farms. A new (or old) kind of pig farm. Especially you @CrazyChookChookLady I think Anna might find this place kind of cool. It would be a great day trip for you.

At Elizabeth Farms they raise heritage Mangalitsa pigs, a breed that originated in Hungary and was on the verge of extinction just over a decade ago. Developed in the mid-19th century for Hungarian royalty, they are best identified by their thick, wooly coat of hair. The pigs have over 200 acres of forest, pasture and mud to roam. They live outdoors all year and happily spend their days in the sun foraging, and digging for grubs.

Here are some pigs just roaming the countryside.

The really exciting thing was the "hay" ride to go see the piglets. There had been 36 piglets born in the previous 24 hours. I took some video.

Here are the piglets playing and chasing each other.

And here are piglets not even a day old feeding. Mom oinks at them so they know they are supposed to feed now.

It really was wonderful to see pigs in a natural environment like this. Of course we supported the farm by purchasing beverages at their bar, mulled wine, and food, pork burgers with bacon, and even brought some products home.

It was a beautiful day as well, tailor made for a November day of driving.

Also spotted at the farm, some poultry!

Oh my.... BACON Seeds!
I’ve mentioned our Feral Turkeys (I’m sure, even though some people here think we are down to just one Tom, that the girls are just hiding out in someone’s yard), the rogue Bantam Chicken Flock that was hanging out with the turkeys, the Feral Goats, the random elk and booming deer population before. But now we have a new Island threat... escaped pet pigs. Meat pigs, being kept as pets, in the town area.

When it comes to homeschooling it all depends on the quality of the teacher, just like in regular schooling! Take for instance the little one here’s mom (who has a Masters degree in biology) but who doesn’t think reading is important, and writing is not useful anymore, because they are just going to use computers anyway, so why bother teaching clear printing skills? Spelling.... bah, autocorrect fixes that! Ducking bulpoop I say! I could show some example texts the 9 year old has sent me... but y’all wouldn’t be able to understand them, trust me.

Everyone needs some basics. ;) I could be faulted for not teaching advanced math but I gave her strong basics to build on & taught her how to learn. :D
