Hahaha, Bok did exactly the same noise when Belle and Snow arrived. Figured it was her voicing her displeasure at the new arrivals

You’re mistaken... those there are the rare and elusive fresh water chicken, not to be confused with the marine chickens @featherhead007 has occasionally shared. Speaking of taxes, I should try to get uploading!

I understand that completely. You must protect the native species first and foremost. It would be nice if death wasn't the only option. If it wasn't for the band on his foot, no one would have been the wiser. Just another pigeon.

That's true! But pigeons usually stay at home, don't they? Only the racing pigeons fly so far and they're trying to get home.

I've read it's far more common that racing pigeons from China show up in Australia. I presume all those are killed too. I daresay we get a few from New Zealand too.

I think if a bird is banded, remove it to quarantine as soon as possible, then contact the owner and invite them to choose between quarantinng then release, returning home on the next available flight, or culling, with a deadline on the decision eg one week. If the owner does not respond, cull the bird unless others have offered to cover the cost of its quarantine.

Look I get it. You don't want your native species wiped out. That's your call. It's your country and that is a great moral position to take.

I say that if there is any other way, the law should not take any life. Any. That's BY Bob's belief. It is not the belief of the majority of Australians. Your process is simple. Owner pays or the animal dies. It keeps loopholes from causing issues and saves the expense of housing and feeding stray animals that show up on your shores. It is an eminently reasonable position.

Ironically, I bet other, non-labeled, pigeons have already made the trip or will follow Joe's lead. It's the leg band that is resulting in Joe's death sentence. Without it no one would have any idea he was different or from another country.

Plus if it is already mixing with local birds, isn't it a bit late ?

Would seem that any virus might already be on the loose but he could have other things that don't spread so easily. They need to try and protect their native species. It's the right thing to do. They need to catch him.

They don't really, not any more. That is more of a pecking order/ eagerness line. Rosie is always happy to see me/food, and very determined to get all the best bits. Alinta has become more and more aggressive lately so is generally half trying to eat and half trying to attack me, Brenna would love some yummies, but hates drama.
