A happy Crybaby update. He just left for his new home. The guy that was supposed to come get him yesterday backed out. So the decision was made to eat him. This had my daughter and her best friend our next door neighbor in tears. Decided to do the deed after we got done cleaning stalls when both girls came running outside screaming they had him a home, don't shoot him. Rosie's best friend's papaw wanted him. Now Maddy loves my chickens, and ever since I got them she's been begging and pleading with her parents to let her have a couple as well. They can't have any so I've always let her help with mine, give her some eggs throughout the week and have let her name a couple that she's pretended were her own. Her papaw came to get him for her. And while he was here he asked me if I had any hens or pullets I'd let go of as well and he'd buy them for Maddy. Since I knew where they were going, and I can go visit anytime I asked her which 2 she wanted, already knowing which she would take. Of course they are 2 of my Marans, the youngest of my group Remi and Blackie. It hurts a bit to loose those 2 girls, but, when they were super little Maddy took almost a daily beating with Momma hen with me to help tame them. Besides myself Maddie spoiled them just as much. I also have myself a new egg customer. Until builds his own flock up to get enough eggs a week to eat wants to buy at least a dozen eggs a week, and has several old egg cartons he's going to bring me. So while I'm going to miss the 3 that just left, I'm very happy they have a great home. And it warmed my heart today to see Maddy jumping around shouting she finally had her own chickens. Oh and Crybaby has a new name. Toothless Jr.

Boy I hope someone else has heard that. I have never. @Shadrach @Kris5902 @Ribh anyone else had a shrieking chicken at night on the roost?

I have heard odd shrieks, but usually during the middle of the day.

These girls have all been mixed for well over a month now... so if there was anything, then I’m already hooped. His chickens just recently showed symptoms, and only one of the classic paralysis. From a lot of what I have read some strains of Mareks are actually fairly common. I am thinking it could be a Cleanliness, and viral load situation, also the less virulent and acute strains are more Likely to make birds susceptible to a secondary infection of coccidiosis or E. coli which then results in death (which sounds to me like what he was describing... most of the symptoms were more coccidiosis like than Mareks, but in mature 18 months+ birds, again recall the slovenly filthy conditions.)

TBH, although I’m still worried and will be closely monitoring, I’m less worried than I probably “should” be .What has me most upset is the disposable treatment of the birds, honestly. And the “I will kill them all and start fresh after some months have passed to control the outbreak” casual attitude. I mean, what if our respective governments took that approach to Covid? Let’s just cull everyone and start again with some new stock once things are settled. It’s Just Wrong. Nothing can justify the disregard for life. It goes against everything I believe. That has me most upset and makes me want to try and save his flock from the casual disrespectful and lazy caretaker and situation.

I woke up this morning still chuckling at this. It is perfect. And it allows for so many chickens!

Oh! This is GORGEOUS!!!
But after hearing all what yall have to deal with when it’s like this I can totally understand the frustration with it!! I love it and think it’s most beautiful but I’ll take when and how we get it! I think that’s why it’s so special to us... it’s such a rarity! I would not want to deal with this while doing animal chores day in and day out!!

Oh I do think it is beautiful and I keep popping my head out to take pictures - particularly of the trees. The issue is it gets followed by many weeks of misery as it melts and freezes and there are big mountains of frozen snow to navigate!

The original 1980's episodes are the best. It has been redone in the 90's and then a movie made, but they pale in comparison to the original.

It was an original 80s episode we watched and it was the pace of the action that dragged. Maybe we all had more patience back then, or it was what we were used to. He does like original Scooby Doo, The Jetsons and Pokemon though.

A couple of my favourite animated series from the 80s were Starblazers and Ulysses 31. You can find episodes for both on YouTube. I watched the pilot episodes for both and they are so boring! The pace was really slow and the story just dragged. I’d rather watch Scooby Doo from the 60s than anime from the 80s.

OH NO. Seems I have an egg eater. I found My Leghorn Hen-Rietta, eating an egg on the porch, she just laid. I'm hoping, it's only a onetime thing, because Rocks-Anne is in lay too. and they all free range.
