Later this evening have project to do, which is going to result in about 3 angry hens. It's time Karen and her crew spend at least part of the day outside. They are 5 weeks old, feathered in enough that with the warm temps we've been having it will be good for them. There is just one teeny tiny problem, their intended destination. The dog house and the run attached to it. I have 3 hens who have decided that is the best spot to lay, and when I'm not out there to supervise free range time they will be secured in the dog house which is over twice the size of their crate currently. At night still they will come back inside. This was the age when I transitioned their parents outside last year, and once they were they took off like little rockets growing. I hate to upset my girls, but the chicks NEED this. I am going to take the other dog crate I have and clean it up and fill it with straw and cover it and put it right beside the dog house. Hopefully they get the hint and will lay there. Hopefully. We all know hens and their favorite nest spots, they don't like change.
