Quite possibly. I'm in a bit of a bind as I have the children today & my isolation spot is already occupied. If I get some space I will look for a spare box & find a spot round the house for her that neither cats nor children can reach. Thanks, MJ.

She might do better with one little friend in a quiet place with lots and lots of food and water.

Calling experienced chickeneers:

the 2nd of my 4 wk old Wyandotte chicks is lethargic & not really eating or drinking. I have started treating her for cocci & syringed some egg yolk into her this morning. Only got 2~3 ml into her but I did get some electrolyted water into her as well. Anyone with ideas as to what might be going on & what I should be doing? Bedding is changed every day & kept dry. Water kept clean. I was using medicated feed but will change that if I start treating everyone for cocci.

Sorry, I haven’t got any advice for what to do or might be going on, sounds like you are doing everything right.

Why do spring hormones have to bring health problems? Ester is still not laying, and I think she starting to slow down a little. However, she isn’t squatting, so maybe she’s just out of lay. I noticed Little Mill was breathing heavy and discovered she has a giant bloated abdomen. She started squatting for me recently, too. I gave her a low-dose aspirin before bed to help with inflammation and ascites. I’ll make mash with Lily of the Valley Aloe Detox the next couple days, too. However, I suspect she’ll be seeing the Avian Vet soon. She might feel better with draining and I’d like to know what color the fluid is. She and Ruby are best friends. Her behavior is completely normal aside from the heavy breathing while she sits.

She's a leghorn.......she's laying! Can you explain this earlobe thing @micstrachan ? I've not heard this one, I don't think.

They pull pigment from their tissues for the yolks, I believe. So earlobes are white when laying and yellow when not. That was definitely the case for Margo and seems to be for Dorothy and Flash, as well.

Corid is a good idea if she’s puffed up. Make sure she’s warm. Could she have ingested bedding? Is her crop emptying?
