Her eggs are so pale that this one looked white in the nest box. She used to lay very pretty brown eggs. Not Maran dark brown mind you but legitimately brown. This one is also long and pointy. Her normal egg was much more round. It's funny how age affects their eggs. I am just sort relieved that she was able to deliver successfully. The yard is also quiet right now. No more continuous bawking! 🤣
Yay Lilly!!! You and her can relax now and enjoy the peace

I'm trying to recall when she laid her last egg. Was it a couple of months ago? Or as far back as November?

I wish I had my camera with me when that happened. I had them in the middle of the yard so they could eat some grass. Instead they were playing with each other when some of the older ones came over to see what we were doing. Ok, they were looking for treats, I've been out of raisins and cranberries for a week and they are hopeful i'll magically have some in my pockets if they come checking multiple times a day. The chicks just rush over in a group and Butter runs. And the chase was on. Butter made 3 big circles in my yard with them hot on her heels until a leaf blew by and they followed it. I think Butter remembers that when momma hen had her babies last fall if she got too close she got whipped so maybe she was expecting a angry momma hen to come after her. The terrors are just having fun being able to have room to bounce around, use their wings and burn off energy. 2 of them are probably going to their new home today. I got a phone call this morning. Maddie's grandma called me in tears. She'd let toothy jr out with his girls this morning and while she was fixing breakfast a stray dog jumped their fence and killed him. They shot the dog before he could go after the hens, but she wanted to know if I had another rooster I could let go of. I told her about the terrors, and since I have 2 boys and 2 girls in that group she's going to take a pair. I don't know which 2 yet, she'll pick them out when she meets them later. And now a strand of hot wire is going to be run along the top of their 5 foot chain link fence.
So many horror stories about stray dogs. So sad. 😥

Well, they came for 2 and left with 4. Maddy's grandpa and his Daughter in law who lives with them came to pick out 2 of Karen's group. She met Drumstick and Bumblebee who were their usual love bug selves and then spent 30 minutes sitting in the pen with the babies. She was looking for the friendliest pullet and cockerel. They all 4 turned on their charm and were hopping all over her, Karen even ended up on her head. He finally asked had she made her mind up and she's like yup, all of them. He also tried the entire time after meeting Drummie again to talk me out of him. If my dad had been home and heard him offer the 75 just for Drummie alone he would have shot me for turning it down. Thankfully he was at work and will never know lol. It didn't help matters that Drummie walked right up to him and let him pick him up and then just melted in his arms when he began scratching his chest. But he knows that with time and attention he can have his own 2 Drumsticks soon.
I assume that this is good news? Are you glad to have placed all 4?
