What am I going to do? My little barred Rocks, are going thru several bowls of chick feed a day. They are just too small yet, to let them free range with the others. I’m out of meally worms, out of canned tuna, canned corn (only one can left) I have plenty of chicken feed, but my bigger ones will sometimes turn their beaks up at it. It’s crazy town here now! :old :th

She's a beautiful bird Shad, that sounds heart wrenching. :hugs
How is her eyesight? Her eyes look "stare-y" to me in the photos. Could she have had a neck or back injury that caused a bit of inflammation?
All the hugs for you both. :hugs:hugs
We think she has had a back injury. Yup, her eyes are not quite as they should be. She sees well enough though.

I'm truly sorry about Fat Bird Shadrach. She is a special girl and has had a long happy life with you. Any chicken can count themselves lucky to have had you as their caretaker.

Bunny means business. She's always enjoyed being stroked and petted while in the nest box. Not anymore, This is what happens if you simply look at her or talk to her. You risk being pecked if you attempt to touch.

I have to confess, I check shite regularly. As in, I look over the “samples” every day to be sure there is nothing weird going on.:idunno
It's a good habit to have. There is a lot to learn there. A couple of the things I've found fascinating is the how healthy deposits from the intestines are cohesive, almost like there is a membrane holding it all together.
Shame the same can't be said about cecal samples.
The colour range is also interesting.
Heat stressed poop where it's mostly clearish water with little liquorice sticks in it took a bit of getting used to.

I have been wanting to do this for some time now. I knew once I started doing this there would be no going back. So I am now diving in and I hope you all enjoy coming along for the ride.

First of all let me tell you how we view our flock as that will help you to understand why we treat them like we do.

Our birds are our pets and we treat them as such. We do not care if someone is not laying eggs. They are welcome to stay at Fluffy Butt Acres until they pass naturally. (Now don't go telling them that! I would hate for word to get out) We do thoroughly enjoy the fresh eggs.

I plan to tell stories from the past as well as from today. I hope you all enjoy and will share stories of your flocks as well.
Although I have farmed for over 50 years of my life, it is only now I feel free to say I also value my livestock as Pets, albeit pets with a purpose. Each animal I host for their lifetimes must earn their keep.

I am so glad you got it. I was actually worried that it might never get to you but at the same time did not want to ask.

I worked very hard to find the most appropriate photo for you. It came to me when I remembered your comment about how wonderful having "The trust of a rooster" is. I wish I was smiling in the photo but I thought that photo of Ned was the one to share. :hugs :hugs
I love the photograph and I'll have it in a frame before long. Lovely to read from CCL how well Ned is coping with being the main man now his dad is dead. Perhaps he could have a chat with Treacle.:duc
