You probably wouldn't write that if you knew how many have died here.....
I already pointed out that while you would live a super chickeny life, as I think with all chickens, it may not be that long. I too have predators and loss. 😥

Well it was mainly stance - very upright and chest pumped up. And with that stance she kept coming at me. She started deploying wings for a fraction of a second and that is when I grabbed her. I think the chunk out of my thumb was retribution for grabbing her. Incidentally, I now totally get how they can pull a mouse apart even without teeth!
I have never had one take a chunk out of me. I bet that really smarts. I don't understand why she might behave in that fashion. We're you wearing something different. A different color maybe?

The long story is that my husband chooses weird names out for naming children. While pregnant with my youngest, he had a lot of suggestions.
Like Socrates, Archimedes, Platyhelminthes... I cannot even remember the other things he offered up, it was all so bad.

The least awful was Allele, and to nip any other awful suggestions said if a girl, he could name. If a boy, I would name.

We never did have a daughter, so he was excited to name a chicken Allele. 😆

The short story is that an allele is part of a gene.

He is a scientist and a lovable dork. 😂
Yes! I was hoping it was the gene allele. What fun.

That is a great shot of all her many colors. :love
I don't have one, but I do think black hens are particularly stunning.
It really is a great example of her coloring. And that was with no direct sun. They are radiant in direct sun. Not quite as radiant as Sansa but pretty darn special. 🥰

It is Monday and as usual Maggie provides the best mugshots. I am rather taken with the wave in Maggie’s comb, I think it is quite fetching!
Also, here is Dotty deciding whether to launch another attack on my legs while Minnie tries to pretend not to notice what is going on.

It is a magnificent comb! I love a wobbled comb! 🥰

I don’t think I was wearing anything different. I clearly upset her though. So for the next few days I need to mount a charm offensive aimed at Dotty. Neither of the road-runners squat for me though all the older Princesses do. I was hoping the road-runners would learn from the older ones but it seems not.
Diana is prone to pecking but that is not aggressive, she is just more than usually food-motivated and sometimes just can’t wait for me to set it down.

And I guess this question can be asked of the group at large about the prefab coops...has anyone had luck with one lasting a couple of years?
We have had one for a couple of years now and other that getting dirty, some screws needing retightening, and paint fading a bit, is none worse for wear. We only have three chickens and they only use it for sleeping and depositing eggs. We live in the high desert so our climate is relatively dry with cold long winters and some pretty stiff winds. Perhaps what has helped save the coop from destruction is that it sits right next to the house.

Talking of animals dying there's a dog at the back of where I live outside in a metal shed crying his heart out with sun beaming down. I hope to god they have at least put water for him. There was 2 but now i only hear one. It's breaking my heart

I called league against cruel sports about this but no one seems to care. I spoke to a caring guy once but the ladies I got through to twice after were not interested in helping at all
