Fat Bird. Each day now she seems steadier on her feet. There are a few moments of wobbliness when she first leaves the coop in the morning. I give her back a quick massage as I carry her to the food point by the ducks, set her down in front of the food with the rest and after that she seems close enough to normal to not riase concern unless you knew her well.
This is quite a difficult scramble for hens and humans alike unless you walk on the wing wall. I've watched Fat Bird negotiate the trickiest sections without problems.

I had to have “The Talk” with Jaffar last night. He was eyeballing the barred rock pullets in the yard free ranging. I told him that they were too young just yet, and robbing the cradle, shouldn’t be the actions of a rooster as sophisticated as he is. I think he understood.
Emily is playing hard to get. (After all, she’s new to Jaffar) and probably thinks casual dating should come before the ..... “home run”?

Oh my...Jaffar! Emily is a lady and deserves to be treated as such!

The rain has stopped and the Princesses have come out to do chickeny things including supervising my work as I try to bury the ground wire for the electric fence.
I am sufficiently confident now in my understanding of the fence that I want to make it a permanent fixture and be able to electrify the moveable fence when they are outside. So I need some ‘fixed points’ to connect back to the ground rod.
Anyway, suffice to say it involves digging in the mud so the Princesses are delighted with this activity and have many contributions to make.
