I just constructed a nice platform for the Chicken Palace water barrel using some retaining wall pavers and I filled the space with rocks so there is no frost heave.
They had found a way between the chainlink fence (the border of our yard) and the garden fence, which is ment to keep them from digging up the new plants. They know all about the garden fence and usually obey its presence, but I looked up from putting a clean sheet on the couch and caught them all happily tossing dirt all over my tiny watermelon plants.I do love me some mischief. Most snakes in the states are really your friends and friends of your chickens. You just have to watch out for egg loss.
Yours will do that as well, and quickly. Take lots of pictures and videos when they are small.
I get that. It is hard to do the coop integration without removing the first coop. Perhaps you should tear down your house? They would likely move on then.They still won’t enter the coop at night. They both wait on my porch, tapping at the door “Let us in, it’s dangerous out here “

I was rather proud of myself.
I did not think through that I had just created a perfect snake home. A small snake has moved in and seems very happy there. I hope he doesn't break into the Chicken Palace but I think my rodent proofing activities are likely to stand up to anything but the smallest of snakes.
Four of my six Barred Rocks, are also lap chickens, (And they let me know it)They are so beautiful. I love Barred Rocks.
